Zlatan Ibrahimovic: A Household Name

Sweden 4 – 2 England
What a night it was at the newly built Friends Stadium in Sweden. For the fifty thousand or so present at the stadium, and millions more around the world, it was indeed a night of excitement. The video clip above shows highlights of the match, including the fourth and final goal by the Swedish captain, Zlatan Ibrahimovic of Sweden in their match against England in an international friendly on Wednesday night.

The goal ranks among one of the best bicycle kick goals of all time. This goal was indeed the icing on the cake for the Swedish striker. It overshadowed Steven Gerrard’s achievement in becoming the sixth player to gain a century of England caps.

Sportsmanship
Much must be said of the plausible sportsmanship of the English side. After the match, Steven Gerrard headed straight to Ibrahimovic to personally congratulate him. Also, Roy Hodgson in a post match interview with the media, praised the Swedish captain for the spectacular goal, describing it “a work of art.”

The goal scorers for England on the night were Danny Welbeck and debutant Steven Caulker.

Pursue Diligence

It is interesting to note that the name, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been around for quite a while, but not many knew about him. Now though it is only his recent goal against the English side that has made him a house-hold name in England, it is obvious he has been diligent in perfecting his art. This brings a lot of scriptural passages to mind:

Be encouraged by this dear reader, and pursue diligence in all your endeavours. The Bible tells us that the diligent hand shall rule (or do I say, the diligent leg).

“The hand of the diligent will rule, But the lazy man will be put to forced labor.” ~ Proverbs 12:24

“A man’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men.” ~ Proverbs 18:16
