How to drive free Traffic

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Traffic is the most important commodity for any internet marketer. Driving it for free is the holy grail for anybody wanting to succeed in this business. The good news is that you is that free traffic is nowhere near as elusive as the holy grail!

Free traffic = you.

Having a revelation of what you are and what you’re not is essential for you being able to succeed at driving traffic for free online. You’re probably wasting hours trawling through the guru webspace, trying to work out at what point they turned from being someone normal to someone extremely successful with ma massive following.

STOP IT!

The best thing you can offer is yourself. The single best marketing ploy after understanding this concept is learning how to market you in a comfortable and sustainable way. Nobody can ever replicate it, it can’t be copied and  its yours to own for free. I find that everybody has a story to sell, and a authoritative voice on something or someone.

So what do I do?

1. Blog about it. Be brave in expressing who you are to the world. Not everyone will like it, some people will ridicule you but some people will really connect with it. Once you get over what everyone may think of you you’re free to express yourself to the world. Connect people with your day to day life with powerful metaphors on whatever you are trying to share with the world.

Your story + powerful metaphors = connection.

Connection = Following.

Following = Free traffic.

2. If your brave enough to be in front of a camera, do it! Video blogging is just emerging on the scene at the moment but this sort of skill set will be a common skill everyone will need in the future. Generation Y is currently mega visual and the millennial generation is even more so. Your reputation in the future will have more to do with how people perceive you in the online space than it will with your actual physical life in the real world. Learning how to be comfortable and how to market yourself well is essential for your success in the online ecosystem.

Heck, before you go an sit in front of a computer and fumble your way through the online video blogging world, turn the camera around and film anything. Seriously I think someone handy with a smart phone, who is quick enough to capture interesting things that they see in their life and who can be bothered uploading their content to youtube are sitting on a goldmine. Some of the dumbest content has had millions of views, and if you stick at it long enough, you’ll post something that’s worth sharing. Once its worth sharing, the sky is the limit in terms of how many people will watch your content around the world. Insert a clever little comment or add on your own link (to wherever) and you’ll have a tonne of free traffic rocking up on your doorstep.

3. Social media = turkey shoot for free traffic. As you are a human being with friends in the real world, the good news is somebody has at least a slight chance of caring about what you might post. The good news is news can spread extremely fast as friends have friends, and each user or account in the social media world is connected to someone else. It seriously is such an untapped resource in terms of free traffic. There are several ways you can increase your following and influence online (for free), and use that as a platform to drive traffic to whatever you’re trying to promote.

I know its awkward and you may find it difficult to put yourself out there. However like the law of inertia, once you start doing something regularly, it becomes second nature and you’ll have all the momentum in the world to drive traffic for free.

Start that ball rolling now.
