Lessons From Dad

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

My dad passed away last night and I reflected about my lessons from Dad.

Lots of thoughts are going through my head about Life. What is Life? One of the things that  kept coming to me was, “How do I want to live my life?” What are my values and beliefs? What do I want to do with my life?

Another aspect of all of this is the concept of letting go. I don’t mean to offend anyone by taking my father’s death and turning it into a part of my business. But, my dad wanted me to have a good life. He worked hard and taught me how to work hard. He definitely instilled the idea of working hard for your life and then retiring. This has been an idea that I have wrestled with.

I saw what my father went through and how difficult this mindset made his life. Dad was always hoping to win the lottery. I think that he was really hoping for a life with less stress and the freedom to do what he wanted to do.

Dad also taught me to live my life with integrity and honesty. These are values that were very important to Dad. It was not worth doing anything if you compromised your integrity and honesty. There is a lot of comfort and power in living by these guidelines.

Dad taught me some other great lessons.

Actually, I was provided some great lessons from Dad. I learned how to ski and play the piano. These skills have enabled me to live a great life. I live in the Aspen, Colorado area. I am able to live an amazing quality of life.

A lot has happened this last year. The bottom line is that have lost everything. But then on the other hand I realize that I have everything I need. I am at the best place in my life emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. I now realize that it is time for me to get my financial life together. I am more excited now about the work that I have done on myself and now the universe is providing opportunities.

My dad first brought our family to Colorado to ski in 1972. He had this sense that this was the right place for me. He encouraged me to move here when I graduated college. It is interesting that I tuned and listened to the voice inside me. You know that inner voice that knows what is best for you?

I have followed that voice. At times it may have been scary. Everytime that I looked fear in the eyes and did what was the right thing to do.

Joining the Empower Network has been on of those experiences that challenges me to make decisions. There are not guarantees but I believe that in doing my inner work that when you are ready, the opportunity will show.

T. Harv Eker talks about the Chinese bamboo tree. When you plant it, it does not grow for five years. After five years, it can grow sixty feet in a few months. Why? because it has been grown its roots. Now it can grow to its full potential. I am at that place now.

I know that I have reached a point in my life that I am ready to grow into great things. I think that the Empower Network is the vehicle that it going to take me to new levels.

I know that my lessons from Dad have prepared me to be where I am now. I am thankful and excited. If you are interested in fulfilling your dreams, join me in the Empower Network.
