Man is supposed to think, and act. He wasn’t made in God’s image to be an automaton.

-Bill Wilson

These were the very first words I read this morning. The title of the chapter was “Be Active, Not Passive” and to be honest, I read the word “automaton” as “automation”, and wondering what he meant. It was later on that it was pointed out to me that the word A-U-T-O-M-O-T-O-N meant a self running machine.

Suddenly not being an automaton made more sense when talking about being active and not passive

Made me think about all the jobs that I have had, and all of the people that have worked for me in the past. Doing the same thing over and over, day in and day out. Why? For me it was because that was all that I knew. Was always told that in order to be a success, that I would need to get a job and work hard. The harder I worked the more money I COULD make. Key word there is COULD.

It is never a guarantee that working hard for a company is going to get you more money. There have been many years that the companies that I was working for did not hand out raises “because of the economy”. So what we got was a “thanks for working so hard” and a “maybe next year it will be better”.

And it is not just about work, what was I doing when I wasn’t working (and not complaining about work)? More than likely I was sitting on a couch watching TV just feeling sorry for myself because I had to work so much.

But what else is there?

PLENTY!!!!

In the comments below the video he says:

For those who wants to know how i learned:

Get a mirror and start working on yourself:)

A little over a year ago I stopped being that automaton and started learning how to live. Started taking accountability for my actions, stopped being such a self-centered self-serving jerk and started looking for ways to better myself emotionally, physically and spiritually.

This Kalatu Blogging platform has something that they call “the 21 Day Blogging Challenge”. The idea being that if you do anything for 21 days straight, then it becomes a habit. I have taken this challenge three months in a row and am looking forward to the next one.

But it made me think yesterday, what else do I need to start getting into the habit of doing?

Well, I do have a gym membership that I use….ahem….occasionally. So I figured, what the heck. Let’s do a 21 day “go to the gym” challenge, so I started yesterday. My challenge to myself is to increase what I am doing each day, even if it is just a fraction so I am keeping a journal along with the journal that I keep for my internet marketing business. My goal on both of them is to do a little more each day.

It is called taking action, something that I know that I need to do on a consistent, daily basis. And when I do that, when I take massive action, my results improve. Really shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, yet a lot of people just won’t start. They prefer the life of an automaton. Just doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results.

Not much else to say on this. The choice is yours.

I made my choice….We made our choice. If you’d like to know more about the choice that we made and how it has improved our lives tremendously, then reach out and connect with us.

We would love to hear from you

  2. I really enjoyed the post Mark. Both videos were impactful. The first showed the power of persistence and the second reminded us that life is to be lived and enjoyed.

  3. Love this post Mark, I especially resonated with the dance video being a professional dancer myself, it really shows the power of consistency and though those moves don’t look that fancy, the coordination and talent involved is tremendous. Thanks for sharing!
