You can learn a lot from your kids, even a few life quotes to live by!
The other night I took the girls over to the pool. Now, like most kids they love to swim.
Having an indoor/outdoor heated pool and a hot tub just across the street is really nice.
So the other night I took the girls over to the pool thinking that they could swim and I could sit in the hot tub. Sound sweet, right?
Well NO. The pool was cold and the hot tub was closed. But, the girls being 6 & 7, tried the pool anyway, only to be in it for about 5 min, and freezing the whole time and at the same time asking me to get in with them.
No way!
I was not about to get in a cold pool, then get out, and walk across the street in 5 degree weather.
Zoe was disappointed. She was so excited to swim and it was a total bummer for her.
Usually if the pool is cold, I will play in it with them for a few minutes, but, I have the hot tub to warm up in.
So I suggested, that we go home have hot chocolate, and watch a movie. Sounded nice and warm!
But she was upset and started complaining about how nothing ever works out, and we always have to change the plan.
So, doing what dad’s do, I dropped a few life quotes on her like “when life give you lemons, you make lemonade.”
And holy crap it worked!
She really responded well. Maybe it was the fact that by now she was freezing, and the thought of hot chocolate was to overwhelming… But it worked, and as I explained, you just can’t spend all of your time focusing all the times things don’t work out. It’s better to focus on the time things do.
And then she hit me with a few life quotes of her own.
She said, ” Dad I have one, When life gives you tomatoes, make ketchup.”…..
The 6 yr old pipes in with “when life gives you peppers, make salsa”….
Clearly their life quotes are all about food, but that’s OK, think they got the point.
Then as we are walking home Zoe bust out the best one yet:
“Dad” she says, “when life gives you onions, try not to cry!”
That was one of the best life quotes I have ever heard!
We all laughed, and came home had hot chocolate and watched a movie before bed. It was fun and we all learned something.
I learned ( yet again) that my two girls are way smarter than I am. I use someone else life quotes and the made up there own! And they learned, not to cry when life gives you onions.
So remember If life gives you onions, try not to cry.
If your getting sick of life’s onions.
