Choosing and buying a Labrador puppy is obviously a wonderful time for the entire family but naturally you need to make sure of the compatibility of you, your family, your home and your puppy.

Labrador Puppy Health.

An important factor to consider when you buy a puppy is that it should be healthy.

There are a number of signs to look out when you choose your pup.
– At a young age, a Lab puppy must be well proportioned and solid; if he looks like a little porker, then that is a great sign!
– Conversely, if the  puppy is thin or if the ribs are visible then this is a sign that he is either malnourished or ill. Either way, you must walk away, regrettable as it may be.
– The pup’s coat must be luxurious and soft
– When choosing your Labrador puppy, inspect the dog thoroughly for signs of poor skin condition. Bald patches or scars are signs of skin problems.
– You also need to inspect the puppies’ backside. He should have a clean bottom; a sign of diarrhea indicates pup’s poor health. Also, you should check and see if there is dandruff-like white matter around the dog’s backside. If there are, this is an indication of tapeworm and if he has tapeworm, then he is more likely to have fleas as well. Eating a flea can result in tapeworm so don’t ever neglect the puppies’ backside when inspecting your potential new canine friend.
– Check to see if the  puppy  has clear eyes. Red eyes indicate problems but clear, bright and inquisitive eyes are signs of good health.
– The Labrador pup should have bright pink gums and make sure his mouth is even and his jaws are aligned.
– Observe  the puppy whilst it is moving. If he is healthy he will dash around with no signs of lameness or a limp.
– Check the ears of the puppy thoroughly. His ears should be clean and nice without any discharge or inflammation.  Observe him to make sure he isn’t excessively shaking his head or scratching his ears.

Labrador Puppy Breeders

Finding the right breeder makes choosing a Labrador puppy a lot easier. A good breeder will draw in most of his customers through word of mouth; there is no need for him to advertise.
Satisfied customers will have no hesitation upon recommending him and a breeder with good reputation will have no objections to providing you with phone numbers of customers with whom you can check the breeder’s reputation.
Before completing any purchase, make sure that the breeder will agree to have the pup checked by an independent veterinarian.

Again, a reputable breeder won’t have any problem with this and an independent check-up will give you a complete peace of mind.
One final factor to consider when purchasing a Labrador pup is the price. If it is too low, chances are you are not getting a bargain but more likely buying a puppy that is either misrepresented in his breeding or ill.
Be wary if the breeder is asking for less.
