Everyone wants to live a long, healthy, and prosperous life. In order to do so, it is wise to educate yourself on ways in which you can contribute to your good health. Committing to a healthy diet and exercise is not as easy as you’d like, but the effort is well worth it when you have less visits to the doctor and could potentially live much longer than if you don’t. Here are some healthy habits that you can get into that have the potential to extend your life for many years.
Healthy Habits for Life
Eat breakfast. Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. A fiber-rich breakfast made up of whole grains is your best bet to begin your day healthy. Eat a fiber-rich cereal or oatmeal, with some fresh fruit added to it for a super way to start your day.
Exercise. I’m sure you’ve heard it many times: Exercise is so good for you. It really is. If you commit to an exercise regimen, your health will improve, and you will feel better physically, mentally and emotionally. Even just a simple 20 minute walk per day is enough to get the blood flowing and endorphins moving about. Go ahead and commit to making exercise part of your life, as it can help extend your life and contribute to a feeling of fulfillment.
Have a friend or two. Experts state that people who have friends that they engage with on a regular basis are happier and may even live longer. You don’t need a bunch of social contacts; even just one good friend is enough to help you. Make it a point to meet for a meal, go to a movie, travel together, or simply become walking buddies. You will feel less lonely and more fulfilled as well.
Never retire. I know it is tempting to think of doing absolutely nothing once you retire, but truth be told, most people who retire get bored sitting around after a very short time. Some people stay bored and don’t engage in any activities, which could have a negative effect on their health. Experts assert that once you retire, find other activities to fill up some of your time because being active helps with longevity.
Volunteer or get a part-time job doing something that you love. Be active in your children and grandchildren’s lives. There are so many activities to do even after you retire. Look at Betty White! She is going strong at 90 years old and involved in many activities.
Get some shut eye. Your body needs sleep to repair and heal your cells. Experts state that you should get between six to eight hours of sleep daily in order to be at your best during the day. Enjoy cat naps? Feel free to take a short nap every day if you’d like.
Laugh. Did you know that laughter acts like medicine? Patients have actually reported that they physically feel better after a hearty laugh. This is one reason why it is important to have a social network, because people tend to laugh more among family and friends. Sometimes you can simply put on a funny movie and feel free to laugh it up. In doing so, you may be increasing time to your valuable life.
Here are just a few habits that you can employ to help extend your life. The better you take care of yourself and engage in healthy habits, the better you will feel and you will be well on your way to a healthy, happy, and vibrant life.
