How To Get Stuff Done and Get Stuff Started

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Damn it’s hard some times to get started, isn’t it.  The pain of getting up.  The struggle of doing the next thing.   The pressure of getting it perfect before  you make the next step….it hangs there lurking at you, almost tormenting you….

You know exactly what I’m talking about don’t you…. you do it all the time.

Facebook just notified me that I’ve got a new event

Oh look that email notification on my phone

Wait.. was that an instant message that popped up

Oh.. they’re online… I better say hi

This is the only TV show I want to watch….

This stuff pops up in front of you all day long looking for your attention and trying to steal away your progress.

How do you keep focused and stay on task to GSD or as I like to say ‘Get Shit Done’?

Here’s the little link I was telling  you about:

When you make a plan to get done what you need to get done and you focus on those tasks that make up that plan, you actually get stuff done.

Love this quote too:

Some times the hardest thing to do is to get started.

If you waiting for the perfect time to start, stop.  There will never be a perfect time so you might as well start now.

For me, the best way to make progress is to make a list the night before of what I know I want to get done tomorrow.

I actually put these things into a task list on my phone.  I down loaded an app and put each item in the task list.

Then I work on that list throughout the day.  Most days. I get everything on that list done.

Here’s the key that I’ve found: don’t put things on that list that are bigger than what you can get done in one day.  If it’s too big of a task, you have to break it down into smaller pieces.

For example.  I’ve been working on my marketing plan for my business.  This is a multi day task.  It’s broken down into 3 parts.  Part 1, identify who my ideal customer is.  Part 2, write down what my ideal customer likes/dislikes and what their problem is.  Part 3, write down what I have that will solve their problem.

To really define my customer, I need to do that correctly and take my time to be sure it’s write.  But I won’t go to bed until I’ve checked it off my list.

Making progress is not about getting it perfect.  Don’t get stuck in analysis paralysis.  Decide, take action and adjust as you go along.  If you don’t get it right, your adjustments along the way will correct your course.

It’s kinda like starting a home business or any type of business.  You can spend  hours and hours trying to find the perfect thing.  I know I have.  I’ve spent so much time researching, looking for the secret, trying to find the easy button and what I’ve found is…. and I’ll save you hours, days, months and years…..IT DOESN’T EXIST.

There is no secret.  There is no easy button except at staples as a gag.  And there’s no easy way except being willing to invest in yourself, put in the time and actually do the work.

How do you think Michael Jordan became a great basketball player?  Do you think he practiced dunks?  I bet not… he spent hours and hours on the fundamentals.  And he took action every day to make progress.  Did it happen overnight?  If you know the story, you know it didn’t.

I’m going to close with this.  If you’re looking for a simple way and a step by step process that thousands of folks have used to begin a home business and to become successful, then click this link and watch the video.
