Writer’s block. Being stuck. Stagnate. Holding pattern. Pause. Frustration.
These are a business person’s worst words. Maybe debt, financial loss, lawsuit may also be difficult words, but we’re going to talk about the ones in row 1 and how to overcome them.
As you’re reading this, I also want you to think about other situation where you can apply this. I have a few I’ll mention below but here it goes….
When I’m having a tough time trying to figure something out, I’ll work in it hard. I’ll push, push and push until I realize that I’m pushing against a pretty tough wall and then I’ll back off for a bit.
Let’s say that I’m writing this blog post. I get the idea, work on a few sentences and then get to the point where I’m not quite sure how to transition it into may main point. I’ll spend 10 to 15 minutes writing, deleting, rewriting and deleting and then I’ll either push through it or I’ll realize that I don’t like what I’ve written.
When I get to the point that I really don’t like my work, I stop. I take some time away and focus on something completely different.
The steps:
- Realize you need to take a break because you spend more time on the delete key than the other keys. 🙂
- Take a short break and focus on something complexly different than what you’re stuck on.
Here’s a quick video I shot related to this.
Here’s the link I mention!
The tough part of this is only realizing when it’s time to step back and take a break before taking another swing at it. Stepping back can be hard if you’re really focused on your task. Trust me, it’s worth the short break. It can be as simple as a 10 minute walk.
Your focus will be much clearer and you’ll be able to produce much better output which will lead to better conversions and better results.
Kick writer’s block for good!
And when all else fails:
