Empower and me–what was I thinking…

I recently joined the Empower network, and this is my first blog post, not just with Empower, but EVER. Watch how it sucks!
I say that with all honesty–I’m working against a clock here. Part of my commitment to this system is to blog every day, and my day is almost up. I now have a choice–one that most of us have all of the time–get it done or do it well. It’s a scary choice–it opens us up to the critical judgement of others.
The reason that this is my first blog post is that like most people, I keep choosing to do it well instead of getting it done. This is a crap decision. I keep giving myself excuses with all of the other things that I need to do, but what it boils down to is this–I don’t like doing things badly. I don’t like failing. I REALLY don’t like failing in front of witnesses. It scares me.
I’ve decided to get over it. Most people don’t care any part of a rat about me (much less a rat’s heinie).
So, I’m blogging. Tadah! And the suggested initial topic is the reason that you joined Empower.
One reason that I joined Empower is that I realized that I need more training to grow my online business. It was a journey to get here. Starting in May (shortly before my birthday), I was re-evaluating my life, and I decided that things need to change. I believe in myself and in the companies I work with, but I’m not getting anywhere. My conclusion was that I need to learn more and change ME in order to be more successful.
So, I started listening to personal development audio and reading books/magazines from well-known coaches. These personal/business development professionals were all saying that successful people spend about 3% of their income on self-development, and that they do this ALL THEIR LIVES!
This was in June. My first thought was that this made good sense, and I should do more training. After I heard the same thing about the third time, I had an epiphany: Whoa! I need to be spending 3% of my income on self-development. I haven’t been doing that. Whether I think I can afford it or not, I need to find a good training program and pony up the money to feed my mind. I’m not going to get where I want to go until I do what I need to do, and I don’t know what that is yet. That is why I need to spend the money on training!
By serendipity, Empower came to mind as that training vehicle when someone I respect, and is an upline in my main MLM, posted about them on Facebook. I had heard about Empower months ago but rejected it (another stupid mistake of mine). After my June epiphany, I realized this was also a bunch of crap. If Empower was something that would provide the training necessary to help me build any business, then it would help me build my main MLM.
So, here I am, working the steps to Empower. And you are the recipients of my very first, very crappy, blog post.
I am choosing to face my fears and learn what I need to learn in order to build a business with a company that I believe in so very much. I am willing to fail in public to do that. It won’t kill me. It won’t kill you.
I suggest that you be less of an idiot than I have been and get started now. Your first blog post can’t suck more than this one.
