First World Problems

I saw this video during a Sunday morning sermon and it made me really take notice of our “First World Problems.” Or should I say so called problems.

First World Problems

Ok before you get all heated over this guy about his issues I want to to watch it again with a different context in mind.

Don’t think that this kid is spoiled or anything like that. Notice how he’s mocking the situation. See him mock people and their self centered issues.

Now ask yourself this? Is this how other people see us? Kind of puts a different spin on this doesn’t it. We quickly move from what looks like a spoiled kid who is mocking selfish people to considering if the rest of the world looks at us this way.

Me and my first world problems.

In just about every medium to big city in America we have more choices than we know what to do with. Just within a 2 mile radius I have 8 different places I can spend 6 bucks to get gourmet coffee, 4 places to buy groceries and 6 places to gas up my ride.

But I can easily complain about not having my favorite ice cream stocked in the store. Or when I have to go an extra mile out of my way to cash a check.

First World Problems Through Other Peoples Eye’s

So here’s a challenge…how can we look at ourselves who live in a first world society and really see what we’re made of? How can we look at ourselves and see us the way the rest of the world see’s us?

I’m often reminded of just how good we have it when I seem to be at my lowest. And I’m thankful for that. When things are running great I tend to forget how blessed I am. My hope is for everyone to take stock in what they really have and to know that they are blessed.

I heard a friend tell me that other countries pray for us differently than we pray for them. We pray to less fortunate people so that can get better if they are ill or they can rise over challenges they face as a family, community or country.

They pray for us to really see the bigger picture and that it’s not all about us. They pray that we come to know our blessings are not in the cars we drive or the houses we live in.

Things that make you think about humanity just a little bit more.
