are all over the place, so what do you have to do and what shouldn’t you do to maximize your exposure and chances of getting ranked high enough on the search engines front page to make a difference?

Write quality content. Yep, we all know that, but what qualifies as quality content? Quality content by search engine standards is mostly about being original and answering the questions being asked around what ever your keyword phrase is. The easiest way to do this is to write from your heart about what you are passionate about, then go find out how people are looking for this information (which is SEO optimization tips #2) The more helpful you are, the more people are going to be interested in what you have to say if it addresses the solution to their problem. Knowing the difference between features and benefits is a plus too. Explaining how something works is great, but really showing your reader how they will benefit is the key to getting them involved in what  you are writing.

Research your keyword phrase. How are people trying to find what  you just wrote about? Jackie Lee did an excellent video on how to do keyword research online for free. It is fast, it is easy and it is effective.

Make sure that your keyword phrase is the first part of your title or headline. You will also want to make sure that you use the whole phrase several times through out your article. If you have written the whole article and don’t have the phrase that people are searching for in there several times, just rework a few sentences. Linking your keyword phrase to an authority site is helpful and linking your phrase to other posts within your domain will help. Also making use of underlining, bolding and italics helps.

Make sure that your permalink has your keyword phrase in it.

You might choose to delete the rest of the headline if  you like a shorter URL (I prefer this method). You do want to write a compelling headline so people will want to read what you have written, it just doesn’t have to be included in the URL.

Include your keyword phrase in your tags. Don’t forget to use alt tags in your photos. If  you have several keywords that you are targeting you can put them all in. I find that I have the most success when I just use one keyword phrase per article and that the keyword phrase I am targeting gives me a good shot of being on page one. Which means that there are between 1000 and 5000 searches per month for that keyword phrase and when I do a google search with these parameters

intitle:”keyword phrase” intag:”keyword phrase” (there is a space between the ” for intitle and the work intag everthing else is together except for the words in your keyword phrase)

I only find a couple sites if any with that keyword phrase both in the title and in the tag. Sometimes I will go put the phrase in Google just to see what comes up. If there are are mostly articles, Squidoo posts, Hubpages, etc and not many, if any, authority sites, we’re good to go.

Open a blogger blog. They are free, easy to set up and they are a Google property. Google loves Google stuff. Make a post about your post. Add a couple links back to your page, a picture or video (uploaded to youtube another Google property) and talk about what your main post is about. It doesn’t have to be long. The goal is to peak the reader’s interest to get them to visit your original post.

Share your post with your friends! This seems like a no brainer, but if you don’t tell  your friends about it they won’t know. (none of my friends are physic that way, anyway) Ask them for feedback and ask them to share your post with their friends that might be interested in what you have just talked about. More and more SEO optimization is about being socially relevant. Join facebook groups that are talking about what you are passionate about and share you posts there. Be careful not to spam them by just dropping your post and running, you need to interact with the group, join the conversation so your posts fit in.
