Here is the goats milk soap recipe that is easy, forgiving and makes yummy goats milk soap!
Using this goats milk soap recipe you will find that making goats milk soap is way easier than you thought. You can use powered goats milk (reconstituted), you can use canned goats milk and you can use the fresh milk in the refrigerated section at your grocer’s.
A Simple Soap Recipe For Goats Milk Soap
18 oz slushy goat’s milk (Frozen to the point of slush)
6 oz water
6 oz lye (sodium hydroxide)
9 oz olive oil
10 oz coconut oil
24 oz vegetable shortening or lard
Heat the solid oils until almost melted. Take it off the heat (this can be down in a glass measuring cup in the microwave) Once all of the solid oils are melted add in the olive oil, set aside to cool down to 100degrees.
Put your pitcher in a larger bowl that has water, ice cubes and some salt (if you are really impatient). Into the pitcher add the 6 oz of water, then to the water (and this is important water first add lye to the water) add the lye slowly mixing with a wooden or plastic spoon. Keep mixing until the temperature reaches 100degrees Fahrenheit.
Once both mixtures are at 100 degrees mix them together. Since I generally heat my oils on the stove in an enamel stock pot I have plenty of room to add the lye mixture to the oils and then put the goat’s milk in after you have given the lye and oil mixture a good stir or two with a stick blender.
When the whole soap reaction has reached the point where it looks like thick vanilla pudding you may add in what ever “extras” you wish and about 2 oz of essential oil or fragrance oil. Stir to mix everything in well then pour the mixture into your molds.
Cover the molds with old towels and maybe a piece of cardboard first to keep the towel from making contact with the soap. Let sit for 24 hours, then take the soap out of the molds and set out on a rack to cure. In about three weeks your brand new homemade soap will be ready to use.
