Do any of you like John Denver? I’m sure when my mom reads this post she will be proud. John Denver is her absolute favorite!
This post isn’t about John Denver, it’s about climbing mountains. Figuratively and literally.
Have you ever climbed a mountain? Maybe it wasn’t a mountain, but maybe it was a big hill? Either way, the view from the top was pretty great, right? I have climbed a few mountains (some of the rocky mountains) and the view from the top is like nothing else. You can see for miles! Its quiet, gorgeous and peaceful!
Was climbing the mountain easy? Well, for the majority of people it isn’t. It’s tiring and sometimes it can even be frustrating. But you don’t give up because you want the accomplishment of reaching the top. You want to be able to see the incredible view and to know that YOU CLIMBED A MOUNTAIN!!!
The best advice I can give to anyone when times are tough is to never give up. You may seem like you’re fighting a losing battle at times, but know that you have the strength to win no matter what. I understand feeling defeated because we all have been there. We all have wanted to throw in the towel and give up. But what happens when you don’t give up?
I think that’s where the magic happens! That’s where you start to see results! That uphill battle you were just facing has now turned into the top of the mountain. You have now accomplished exactly what you set out to do. Get to the top!
I don’t know what kind of goals or dreams you have, but I’m sure they’re very important to you. I also don’t know how many goals or dreams you have accomplished in your life time, but I’m sure you want to accomplish them all!
What is holding you back?
The fear of what might happen during the process of making your dreams come true or reaching your goals is a big deterrent for many people. It may be the fear of failing, the fear of being criticized, or the fear of not knowing which step to take next. These fears will not gain you anything. They will not gain you courage, they will not gain you progress, they will not gain you ACCOMPLISHMENT!
Holding onto the motivation you provide yourself with will gain you everything! It will provide you with the confidence you need, the self-help when you need it, and it will provide you with the end result. The ACCOMPLISHMENT you set out to achieve in the first place! Motivation is a key factor in climbing to the top of the mountain.
This may seem silly, but it is what works for me. When I am physically climbing a mountain and I get to the point where I feel like I can’t take another step I start motivating myself! I say to myself “Come on, keep going. Don’t give up. Take a deep breath and keep going. You can do this and you will do this!”
Do you think that saying these exact same things also works when climbing the mountain to reach your dreams or goals? It absolutely does!! Giving yourself that verbal motivation will absolutely help you take that next step, and the step after that. And before you know all the steps are complete and you have done it! You have reached the top of your mountain!
Revel in the glory of your triumph! Look around and the view from the top and absorb everything in its glory. The view from the top looks different to everyone because they won different battles to get there. This achievement is yours and no one else’s!
Now, John Denver was a talented man. He brought kind words to people through his music. He had an incredibly special place in his heart for Colorado and the mountains that spread across the state. I’m sure he climbed a few mountains that brought him to a place of sincere achievement and glory.
Which mountain will you climb next?
