Internet change is happening.
Month by month, year by year, the Internet expands, grows, becomes more pervasive. Some might say invasive. Nonetheless, our relationship with it evolves as the Internet change accelerates.
Evolution is the adaptation of a species over time to environmental pressures that species is presented with. As we know, there are conflicting views about evolution as applied to humans. Let’s leave that alone and concentrate on Internet change as a sort of evolutionary process in that there are pressures on it and it continues to change to meet those pressures.
What Internet change am I writing about?
Good question. Specifically, the change that Google creates with its algorithm used to rank websites. How often do you go past page one of a Google search result? Right, that is why everyone wants to get on the first page of a search result. How that is done has been through what is known as Search Engine Optimization or SEO for short. Marketers, bloggers, website owners and designers all try to guess what the Google algorithm is and try to manipulate their content so as to rank highly.
In keeping with the evolutionary analogy, Google is an organism that engages auto-genetic manipulation. In the past, back-links, keywords, and a host of other methods have been used to appease the algorithm. These will undoubtedly continue to be a component. It makes sense that traffic to your site, and clear content will count for something.
This leads us to the Internet change coming in 2013
Many industry experts agree that there is a paradigm change coming. I should point out that others say that it is not so great a shift, just a continuation of present trends. In either case the new SEO is going to be People & Traffic Optimization; or PTO
How large of an Internet change is this? Well it is going to be more oriented to the end user. Sites that are people friendly and get more traffic organically will be more highly ranked. What does that mean? A site will have to be genuinely attractive to users. It will have to have good content, be easy to use, and be visited by real people.
There is an article that discusses this in more detail, you can get it here.
