When running a marathon, whether it is your first or fiftieth, you must know how to pace yourself, and keep on track, in order to finish in the desired time. These simple marathon racing tips will help you keep on track, see the end goal, and stay on pace the entire time, without wearing yourself down too early, which will in turn result in a slower pace, and you finishing behind the set goal time that you had in mind for the marathon race.
Keeping hydrated is possibly the most basic, yet necessary marathon racing tips you need to remember. This is important not only on the day of the race, but before and after the fact as well. You have to keep the body fully hydrated, and even if you feel you do not need it, should take in a drink at every water station during the race. Before the day of the race, for at least one week prior, you should consume at least 8 glasses of water each day. It is also important after the race, even if your body does not feel dehydrated, you just lost plenty of water, and need to consume as much as possible.
As far as your shoes go, one of the best marathon racing tips is to wear shoes that are worn in. You do not want a pair that is falling apart, but you do not want to wear a brand new pair of running shoes on race day either. The sole should be intact, the shoes should mold to your feet, and the fit should provide breathing room and cushioning, to ensure you are as comfortable as possible when trying to complete the 26.2 miles on race day.
For marathon racing tips as far as meals, you do not want to carb overload the night before. You should consider a large pasta dinner a couple nights prior to the race. This is going to fill you up, and give you the necessary energy for the race. The day before you can enjoy a filling meal, but you definately do not want to overload on carbs. This can result in an upset stomach, or possibly result in you cramping up on the day of the race, which is definately something that you don’t want to happen.
Another one of the simple yet effective marathon racing tips to consider is relaxing the day before. You should not be on your feet all day, and you definately do not want to take on a big run the day before your marathon. You have to be rested and your body needs to relax, in order to have the necessary energy to make it through the race. A small workout, or small walk on the treadmill the day before is fine, but you definately do not want to push it.
These simple marathon racing tips are going to go a long way in your success. The more rested and relaxed you are, and the more prepared you are for the big race (mentally and physically), the better you will perform on race day.
