Social Media: What Does It Mean For Your Business?

Social Media

Why is important for small businesses to get on social media bandwagon?

Social Media is very prevalent today and a huge part of effectively marketing online. Why?  Check out just two of the major Social Media networks below.  The numbers are huge and this doesn’t even take into account what is happening on YouTube and Pinterest.

1. Facebook:

  • 700 million active users
  • 50% log on daily
  • Average Facebook user has 130 friends

2. Twitter

  • 55 million tweets daily
  • 105 millions users (registered)
  • 300,000 new users per day

Both of these markets are conversations you need to engage with socially and they are social media market’s that consist of people, not just demographics.  It is definitely important to know how to create a community with people on these networks.

Why do businesses need Social Media and Social Media managers?

If a business expects to use Social Media to build, develop and grow their business, they need a professional presence that is better than their competition. Fortunately, this is not really difficult to do.  In order to succeed in Social Media however, a business needs someone who has extensive knowledge on the platforms and knows which one is best suited for that business. A Social Media Manager needs to be up to speed with the latest tools,  platforms and strategies.

What can you do to make Social Media work for your business?

These are just a few of the many steps you can take to make sure you are capitalizing on your Social Media if you want your business to succeed.

1. Stay ahead of the curve, i.e, the fan page curve ball.

2. Have a well thought out social media strategy.

3. You need to have at least one dedicated person to create a consistent message and keep content fresh.  If your going to have an online presence then content needs to be updated daily.

4. Consider having a Social Media Manager. This one step alone could save business owners time – their most valuable asset. Business owners are not typically trained in the Social Media arena.  They don’t need to be but they do need to have a basic understanding of how it works.

A recent statistic shows that 9% of small business owners said a social media expert would be the most helpful new hire after a book-keeper.

So what exactly does a Social Media Manager do

for a business?

If you have the right person doing your Social Media for you and your business, there are some standard things they should be doing.  This is not all-encompassing but gives you an idea.

1. building or customizing client fan page(s) (updating pages now with new timeline)
2. developing new content to post
3. posting new content (twice a day)
4. policing clients walls for spam
5. responding to fans questions
6. deploying fan acquisition tactics – getting people on fan page – building audience – daily activity

Are you seeing what these steps alone could be doing for your business if you or a designated person is correctly handling your Social Media?

Social Media is not going anywhere soon and it is critical to your business that you get on the Social Media Bandwagon.

To Your Success,
