My husband and I went to “An Evening with John Maxwell” the other night and picked up some invaluable leadership tips that left us in awe!

If you’ve never heard of John Maxwell, he is well worth a quick Google search… He has written over 70 books, is a internationally recognized leadership expert, speaker and preacher.

John Maxwell is an amazing speaker and relays his teachings in such simplistic terms. It is quite refreshing! One of the things he talked about was the rule of five. Sit down and reflect… then choose 5 things you can do everyday to build your success.

John Maxwell’s 5 things are read, write, file, think, and add value. The simple aspect of this technique is that it’s only 5 things, they don’t have to be complicated, and they don’t have to take forever.

Imaging taking an ax and and hitting a tree only 5 times each day with it. The tree represents your goal. Now, the tree may be 3 inches in diameter or 3 feet, but no matter what, if you consistently take 5 swings with that ax everyday, you will eventually bring that tree down.

Just 5 things! How simple! You can choose anything you want, but make them specific towards your goal. Then be consistent. You must do these 5 things everyday if you wish to see yourself rise to the level of your dreams. But remember, you don’t have to do them all day, just once.

Now obvioulsy, the 5 things can be changed and tailored to your live as you reach your goals and strive for new ones. They are meant to help to grow, not to get you stuck in a rut. If you find that something just isn’t panning out, change it! It may take some tweaking to get things to work out.
