If You Use Text Advertising… You Need to Read This FIRST!
How many texts did you get today?
Did you read them right away or did you wait until later?
The answer to those 2 questions shows why text advertising is so popular. People just can’t resist opening them as soon as they get them.
Add the popularity of smartphones and tablets… well, you get the picture.
But if you use text advertising to promote your business or product… you need to read this before you send out another text.
If you use text advertising, you better know your Advertiser…
The well-known pizza chain, Papa John’s
CNNMoney reported this just yesterday right here.
According to the report:
The plaintiffs allege that Papa John’s (PZZA) franchises sent customers a total of 500,000 unwanted messages in early 2010. The spam texts offered deals for pizza, and some customers complained they were getting 15 or 16 texts in a row, even during the middle of the night, according Donald Heyrich, an attorney representing the class.
Here’s one example of the complaints coming in from customers-
“After I ordered from Papa John’s, my telephone started beeping with text messages advertising pizza specials,” Erin Chutich, one of the plaintiffs, said in a statement. “Papa John’s never asked permission to send me text message advertisements.”
Obviously this can be a head-ache for cell-phone users who don’t have “all-you-can-eat” data plans and have to pay for each text received.
According to the report, the plaintiffs are apparently seeking for each unwanted text.
That’s a lot of pepperoni…
If you use text advertising, just be smart about it…
Just like with email marketing, obviously text messaging is fine if the receiver has opt-ed in to receive the information. The problem starts when companies blast texts out to people who never requested it.
So if you use text advertising at all, you better make sure the company has a strict, no-spam policy and uses opt-in’s for everything.
When someone receives a text they didn’t ask for, their first thought isn’t the text company… their resentment is to you, the advertiser.
Don’t make yourself look like a spam-bot… and don’t make your company or business look like a 3rd-rate outfit either.
If you use text advertising, use basic common sense…
Text advertising is definitely on the rise and can be very effective if done right.
Just be smart about it. Choose your advertiser carefully and don’t over-do it.
It’s your business…
Make it count.
