Fun vs. Common Sense

Amazingly enough in researching this I found two different but meaningful definitions of “common sense” and here they are. “Good sense and sound judgment in practical matters.” “Sound practical judgment derived from experience rather than study.”

However I also believe that if you think about our exposure to fun as kids versus where we are today, the second definition is more valid. Stop and think about some of the most fun times you ever had in your lifetime and no doubt some of the best occurred when you were a youngster. In fact if I were to ask you to complete a list consisting of the following which could you personally say you were exposed to?

The list consists of; best movies, best games, best apps, best websites, best tv, best books, best music. So which do you think does better for you fun or common sense? Most likely those years you experienced under age 20, simply because for the most part, under that age, you didn’t have as many responsibilities and pressure on you, then as now, if you are older today. Twenty or more years ago we didn’t have apps, websites, ipads or mobile phones with capabilities they have today, and so our common sense had to prevail.

Yet as important as fun is we seem to neglect our own responsibilities regarding its day-to-day expansion and use. Stop for just a minute and ask yourself, “I wonder how much better, brighter and effective my relationships would be, if I were to structure and enhance them with more fun and not necessarily, strictly with technologies?”

So where do you go from here? Apply what we just thought about with respect to fun vs. common sense, and the second of those initial definitions. You and you alone, can make such a change in your life. You can and should share with friends and family this challenge of fun vs. common sense.
