Everyone gets distracted every once and a while, but in order to reach your goal you need to get focused.
I find that when I set a goal it is more easily reached when I am focused. Sometimes I am lazar focused and reach my goal in a short period of time. Other times I am distracted and it takes longer to meet my objective.
For example, I needed to get to the bank today before it closed. I had 2 hours before the bank closed. That was plenty of time. I had time to stop for lunch, run a short errand, and browse my favorite shop before catching the bus to get to the bank. Well…
I met a friend for lunch and we talked and caught up with what was going on with each other. It took a little longer than I had anticipated so I had to rush out to catch the bus which was coming. Needless to say… I missed the bus and had to wait for the next one. It would take another 20 minutes. It was crowded, but I saw another friend I hadn’t seen in a while. We talked during the whole 30 minute ride and I missed my stop! I had to walk back 2 blocks and then I ran into my favorite store and checked out a few pair of shoes. I tried them on and then noticed the time. I only had 10 minutes before the bank closed and I was 15 minutes away and yes…I didn’t get there on time. I lost my focus. I didn’t reach my goal.
I should have focused on my main goal and then I could have done everything else after that.
It can be easy to become distracted during your employment interview. Sometimes you can get so nervous you forget to talk about all of the skills you have that can land. You may forget to complete the employment application, you may even forget your interviewer’s name.
Here are some ways to help you stay focused during your interview.
Practice your employment interview questions. Ask a friend or family member to ask you a set of questions that you may be asked during your employment interview. Practice making your responses under two minutes. Practice and be prepared for your next interview.
Oftentimes you will receive a telephone call from a prospective employer. During that telephone call you may be asked to set an appointment for your personal interview. Make sure you are standing up when you go through your calendar. When you are standing, believe it or not, you project a more positive attitude and your voice reflects that fact. Make an appointment and keep it. Be on time for your interview.
You may get a call from a prospective employer requesting a telephone interview. Particularly if the location is not in your current city. If you have a telephone interview you need to be as focused as you should be if you were interviewing in person. Set the appointment, be prepared to answer the interview questions to the best of your knowledge. The advantage of a telephone interview is that you are normally at home, however, make sure you will not be interrupted. You still need to focus. Smile, as this can be perceived through the telephone.
Bring at least ten resumes with you. Your interviewer will need a copy for their files, you need one to refer to when they ask you specific questions, they may need an extra to forward to their hiring team and you never know, you may find a job opening and an opportunity for a second interview on the way from your first interview!
Get a good night’s rest the night before your employment interview. Get up in plenty of time to eat a good breakfast and please allow enough time for travel. Try to be at least 10 minutes early. You don’t want to be any earlier than that because you will seem anxious.
There something I never lose focus on though. Blogging. I blog on the Empower Network blog platform. I am crystal clear on my goals and objectives there. All I need to do is blog daily, tell others and make money. I am always focused when it comes to that.
You see, I get training daily from my team…I am on the Dream Team and they help me stay focused on my goal. My goal is to get my blog posts ranked in the search engines and build a great following. David Wood, David Sharp and Tracey Walker keep me lazar focused. Dave and Dave give dynamite trainings on a weekly basis. Tracey Walker keeps me lazar focused and inspired on a daily basis. They give me marketing training, list building training, and blogging training too!
I love the Empower Network! Why? Because it is one of the best and easiest ways for a newbie like me to get focused on making money online using the SEO blogging platform. I don’t have to worry about my blog being noticed by others because I am confident it will get picked up by the search engines and will be ranked on Google.
Every week on Monday evenings David Wood and David Sharp give a training call. The call is usually full and people are waiting for someone to be dropped so they can get on! Everyone knows that a great tip or tool will be shared. Once that happens we all know what to focus on that week. Lately, David and Davis have been doing live steams of themselves giving trainings.
