Aircraft Interior Blog

There are many aspects to an aircraft interior that the typical aviation professional is unaware of.  And it is to no fault of their’s.  It is just not their area of expertise.  So they could be a Chief Pilot or a Director of Maintenance…..but not an interior craftsman.

But some of these aspect’s…..these unknown aspect’s that I am talking about……. can affect the cost of the aircraft interior and also the lasting endurance of the interior.

And on occasion, some of these unknowns can actually be safety issues.

So seeing that we have had so much experience in this field…….over 38 years of experience of dealing with the aircraft interior…….well we want to share what we know……with you.

And that is what our New Aircraft Interior Blog will be all about!

Sometimes the aspect’s of the Aircraft Interior are like Apples & Oranges

When we think of the aircraft interior, it is often just like apples and oranges.  This is true when you think of a mom and pop aircraft interior shop…..vs……an OEM or aircraft manufacturers in house aircraft interior shop.  And then you have the large interior shops or completion centers.

But it is hard some time’s to make fair or perhaps better stated……accurate comparison’s.  And you may be thinking that I am strictly talking about the cost of getting your aircraft interior refurbished.

But I am also talking about the quality, the safety…..and the legality of the aircraft interior.

Let me give you just a glimpse of what I am talking about when I speak of apples & oranges here.

A small mom and pop interior shop has a very low overhead.  Their quality assurance function and process is also very small…..and sometimes ineffective.  The process that they typically utilize is more based on tribal knowledge……than sound engineering and formal specifications.  And because every single project can either make them well off…..or destroy them financially……well they are sometimes prone to taking shortcuts with your aircraft interior.

Now please understand me…..I am not saying that all smaller shops are like this.  I am just stating that these points can sometimes happen.  So the Director of Maintenance or Chief Pilot has to think about this when they are putting their career on the line by recommending that a small shop perform the aircraft interior refurb.

On the other hand, an OEM, manufacturer, completion center…..or large aircraft interior refurb shop……tends to have a very high overhead.  Their quality assurance department is larger….and strictly overhead.  And sometimes……too restrictive, when actually trying to get the work done.

And that can be a good thing…..especially when you want to make sure that your aircraft interior is safe and legal.  But it can add to the down time for the project.

Now some of the problems that can be introduced into an interior project, when being performed by a large aircraft interior shop, manufacturer or completion center………can be almost invisible to the novice or unsuspecting Director of Maintenance or Chief Pilot.  You see a large shop will be prone to supplement their workforce with a large quantity of contractors.

Now stop right here….I AM NOT saying that all contractors are bad.  I AM a contractor of sorts in that I am an aircraft interior consultant.  And I know some really great and very knowledgeable contractors who I would call anytime when I need help.

What I am saying is that sometimes when a larger company relies too much on a contracted workforce…..they lose control over quality…..and delivery time.

And again….for the untrained folks who participate in the decision making process of deciding which facility will actually perform the aircraft interior project…..well they can make a really bad decision if they are using price alone as the final bid decision.

Why…..because we are talking about apples and oranges.  So the final decision is flawed when only looking at one dimension.  And let’s face it…..price usually wins, especially when you are dealing with inexperience.

How do we fix that sort of scenario with our Aircraft Interior?

Well we need to learn what to look for.  We need to learn the in’s and out’s of what happens inside a small aircraft interior shop…..vs…..what happens inside of a large interior shop.  We need to learn what the process should be, how it should be formatted and what it should address.

And we need to know…..and this may be tough for you right now…..but we need to know how things are made or we actually do….the aircraft interior refurbishment.  And that sounds tough to learn…..but first we learn the broad brush strokes….and we leave the nitty gritty stuff alone for a while.

So we need to learn!  And that is what I would like to be a part of…..your aircraft interior education!

Our new Aircraft Interior Blog will be about teaching and passing on all of our years of aircraft interior experience……passing it on to all of those aircraft professionals that have to deal with the aircraft interior from time to time.

And as with all forms of education…..sometimes we get it right away…..and sometimes it comes over time.

BUT……by visiting the Aircraft Interior blog on a regular basis, you will have a source to go to when you need the information.  A place to click…..and poof….hopefully we can provide the answer that you are looking for.

So please take the time to visit our New Aircraft Interior Blog!

Our new Aircraft Interior Blog is brand new…..so there is only so much information there right now……but we have more and more coming.  Some of that information will be posted here…..because this Empower Network blog is a power house.  Most people have no idea how powerful this blogging system is.

They think that they have to do the business end of it……when the fact of the matter is that end of it is strictly optional.  I originally bought this blogging system because a millionaire friend of mine showed me a trick that can help all of my other blogs.  And 99% of the people don’t get that.  Hence the reason why rich people are rare…LOL.

And that’s why you will find posts here on this blog…..basically advertising our other aircraft interior blog…..the one that you can find by clicking here on Aircraft Interior Blog.
