Happy Endings!

Don’t you just love happy endings? Don’t you just hate sad endings? I was listening to an audio today on the subject of Social Media and  leaving a happy ending to any problems you share, I began to think of a story I was unfortunate enough to watch.

It was a movie called “The Perfect Storm”. It was a movie that came out in 2000 about a storm and a fishing boat that was unfortunate enough to get into it. A friend and co-worker talked me into seeing one afternoon many years ago, he told I just had to watch this movie. 

Since I am writer, movies are difficult to bear. It has to be a great movie to keep me from walking out. Without my friend telling me about the plot of this movie, I watched the first portion and started to get suspicious. I watched how the writers worked at getting the viewers involved emotionally in the lives of the people. Each person on the boat had a back story, and it began become clear that the writers wanted the viewers extremely involved. At one point, I jumped up and asked my friend if anyone on the boat survives. When he said no, I was finished. I was not allowing myself to get emotionally involved with this movie if everyone dies, and there are no survivors!

One reason we love to watch movies or read books about heroes is because we all love happy endings. Think about it! A great story has challenges and hurdles, and the greater the problem or crisis, the greater the ending is. If the story had no challenge for the charactors, if the challenge was easy, it would be most boring, and no one would watch. 

Here is an anatomy of a good story. After the charactors are introduced, and their connection with each other is exposed, there is a crisis that forms. Usually, the crisis seems insignificant at first, but as the story unfolds, the crisis gets bigger and bigger. The hero in the story overcomes problems that grow as the story goes on, each conflict point is a climax that leads to the biggest climax of the story. Many times, the hero of the story cannot overcome, or be victorious without help, involving other charactors, making the conclusion spectacular!

We are each living a story, one that is destined for a happy ending, if we want it to. The biggest crisis of our lives is a lie that we believe, that we are nothing, we will amount to nothing, and there is nothing that we can do about it! That is a huge lie! The truth is that we are charactors in the story, and Jesus is the hero. We all get to win in the end if we follow the narrative set before us. Or, we could just believe that our lives do not matter, and that we are doomed to go through life defeated, just waiting for Jesus to come and rescue us from our meager existence.

We could read the story of Jesus, pay particular attention to His words about how we are to live, and live victoriously. If we follow Him, live His way, live in hope instead of fear, live our lives with purpose and direction, then we will win, and be victorious! 

Its time to ditch the idea that we are all losers just waiting for a savior. The Savior has already come, and He has done His work, and its time for us to live in that victory! Stop putting yourself in the story of the “Perfect Storm” where no one survives! Pu yourself in His story, where all who believe are victors, not in the “sweet-by-in-by”, but in the here and now!

Just know this, you are destined for a happy ending! If you are going through an unfortunate climax in your story, it will have an awesome outcome! See yourself as the victor over whatever situation you face! Its time for your Happy Ending!
