An Amazing Free Gift!

Have you ever clicked on a link to a “Free Gift!” only to find out that it isn’t free? They send you to a web page that asks something from you? 

Then there’s my favorite, the “Free Gift” at a store, you go and find that they want some personal information about you, trading info for anything isn’t free! I remember a discussion I had at a store that wanted me to sign up for a “free discount card”. They wanted my name, address and phone number, not free. The poor clerk stared at me as I declined the card, my private information isn’t “free”, I explained!

There is another exploited “Free Gift” out there, the gift of the Gospel of Jesus. Now, before you write this off as another “Religious” blog post, please stick around and let me explain. You see, I am all about relationship, not about religion, so don’t let the subject turn you off. 

Most “Christian Churches” will tell you about how Jesus came and died to forgive you of all your sins, and that it is a “Free Gift”. Then, they turn around and tell you that it cost something. They will tell you that Jesus came to “fulfill” the Jewish Law, but them they tell you that there are parts of it you must keep. They pick and choose which ones you should adhere to. They say the He died to forgive you of your sins, but you must keep asking Him to forgive you, as if He didn’t do a good enough job to begin with. Then one of favorites, they will tell you that they obey the Ten Commandments, will fight to keep the Ten Commandments displayed in some public place, but they don’t keep them  themselves.If you come across one that is defending the Ten Commandments, ask them what they did this past Friday night sundown until sundown Saturday. I bet it wasn’t kept “Holy”, some form of work involved.

But here is the great news, it really is free, and the religious among us cannot change that, no matter how much they try! Jesus did die on a cross to secure a New Covenant, and He did it for free! John 3:16, probably the most quoted verse in the Bible says “For God so loved the World that He gave His one and only Son…” Did you catch that? He gave, and the gift is free! Romans 6:23 says ” The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life!” 

Now, remember I said I am not about religion, so I am not promoting a religious group, I’m not going to tell you you have to pay something in order to get anything, because this is free! You really don’t have to do anything if you don’t want, outside of believe what I am saying. Because if you believe it, you have accepted it, and that is all you need to do! 

I know, there is a religious voice saying “but what happens if you sin? You have to repent, over and over again”. That would be like saying that Jesus needs to die again, over and over. But, His last words were “It is finished”. The words He used were a legal term that meant a debt was satisfied, there is nothing else to pay!

An Amazing Free Gift!

There are other voices saying “Then can we sin as much as we please?” In the words of Paul, “God Forbid!” Actually, thinking of sinning is the wrong way to look at it. Instead of thinking that we are free to sin, we are to think that we are free NOT to sin, free to live FOR Him! 

Paul said in 2 Corinthians 5 that God reconciled the world to Himself, not charging their trespasses against them. In fact, he says that God has given us the same job, we are assigned the job of reconciling mankind to God, by the same means, not charging the world with sin, in other words, we are not to be the judge! 

So, there is your free gift! The good news, that you do not have anything that blocks you from God, you have Free Access to the Father that Created you! If you run across anyone that wants to argue, here is what Paul said in 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him”

So, what are you going to do with your free gift? I know what I am going to do! I am pursuing a relationship with Him, free from religion!
