Dreams

Imagination

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

As  child I imagined very vividly. I imagined I was a movie star. A famous woman that was married to a rich prince. I would go to the forest behind the house and take a scarf to wear on my head to dress for the part. I would choose a “spot” that was our house and there…my Imagination” would unfold in all of it’s innocence. Creating, just for the moment, whatever it was that I could possibly imagine.

As I reached the teen years my Imagination grew dim. I was blinded by the society around me and the judgement of piers. The thoughts and emotions that came forward diminished my ability to dream vividly. To my astonishment that it wasn’t playing out the way that I had dreamt!

Reality of the “real” world set in and as I moved through it, learning where I belonged, I lost hold of all of my dreams. The equation was not adding up to match what I had created. So, I started to move without a dream and started living to fit into the circumstances around me. I  adapted lifestyles, attitudes, jobs to be part of this unrealistic place called “my life.”

On occasion I would reflect on the Imagination of childhood and move past it chalking it up to only a dream, and continue in day to day routine with a bit of despair and wonderment as to what happened to that dream. Was it just a dream? Noticing that in my soul I still had the desire for it, however not seeing a pathway to get there. Not believing that there was a way to live what my Imagination had created.

I chose to believe the things I had told myself that squashed that dream. The disappointments and failures out numbered my successes therefore it would never be possible to have all that my heart desired. That I needed to compromise because after all, I was an adult now. Need to set aside those childish things and face reality!

This is so far from the truth!! The dreams of my childhood are the footstool of my life. The deepest desires that can come true. They are mine for the keeping. They are mine to make into whatever I want them to be. That I alone have the ability to achieve my ultimate purpose in life. That I….even as an adult can make all my dreams come true!

“Life is just a dream…..sweetheart…”my dream.” So I dream big today. I have control over how and when my dreams become my reality! I use my Imagination. The child like one, rebirthed into this woman to live life to it’s fullest and dream!!

Have a day of dreams come true!!
