1963….5 Years Old….and 911..

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Aurora, Colo…..1963…

I am 5 years old, second of the youngest in five kids.

My parents are raging, violent alcoholics.

Swapping kids, and moving from place to place.

It’s 2 a.m…

Two brothers and I are with Mom, in a two story house.

The attic with only a bed on the floor is our room.

The large oak tree is hitting the roof and the side of the house from the strong wind. Only one small south side window….displaying the long arms of the tree…..casting shadows onto the ceiling and floor of our humble room.

I feel very afraid…

“HONK….HONK!!!”

“SLAM!!!!”

“GET OUT HERE…NOW!!!”

Oh, No!!! It’s Daddy…..

Shaking….tears filling our eyes…my two brothers and I take a blanket, wrap up in it, huddled together, and move toward the small window…

Daddy has a chain. No, three of them.

They appear to be snow tire chains.

Mom is walking across the yard toward him and the old oak tree..

Pressing my nose against the glass of the small window with my brothers by my side, we wrestle to find our spot to witness our parents display in the front yard.

I jump and scream as I see him reach out and grab her arm.

The little window is foggy now. With little hands and noses pressed tightly against it. Tears running down our faces, we huddle closer together…

The shadows of the old tree casting an eerie affect over the scene that is unfolding in front of us.

Mom is crying. Daddy is yelling and cursing!

Flinging Mom up against the tree by the arm, he proceeds to take the chains and tie her to the tree.

Time has stopped for me. Everything is in slow motion.

“Please, STOP!!!” I cry out! But he doesn’t stop.

It only increases with violence as he starts beating her with one of the chains….

I become empowered with adrenaline ….

I HAVE to do something…NOW!

I scramble away from the window, and my brothers, running downstairs out the back door and down the alley way to the gas station just a 1/2 a block away.

I’m not feeling the rocks cutting my feet as I head to the destination of the phone booth.

My only focus is to stop Daddy from hurting us any more.

I jump one…two….three times….knocking the handle of the phone down, wincing as it hits me on the head.

Stretching…stretching I try to push the buttons of my rescuers…”911…

Thank you for reading today. I appreciate you.

Life is a journey. One that I have learned that I can partake in.

It’s not just the circumstances around me that format my life. Unless that’s the way that I let it unfold.

To take experiences and use them to the good takes maturity and faith.

“Faith is: Knowing what to hope for and believing in the unseen.” -The Bible

This tells me that the inner most desires of my heart will transform itself into my physical reality if I “hope” and “believe” in them.

The Empower Network opportunity that is part of this blog, is that for me.

I have hoped for an opportunity that would free up my life of the “grind.” One that would provide a way out for me to spend time with family and to live this journey called life instead of just showing up every day.

I heard this and it impacted me greatly:

Average people: “Thinks their life is happening…”

Wealthy people: “Make their life happen.”

So, which are you?

Do you know what to hope for?

Do you believe in the unseen?

This opportunity is the real deal, my friend.

Start today! “Make your life happen.”

Look for the miracles in your life!

Warmest Regards,

Deanna
