Florence day 2: Uffizi Museum

Galleria Degli Uffizi
Having spent a few weeks in Italy already, we have seen a couple of museums…
Karly and I have seen a number of them in Milan and the impressive collection at the Vatican. Today though, we went to see one of the largest and oldest museums around!
This museum is the famous Uffizi Gallery or Galleria Degli Uffizi as they say in Italy…
On the way to the Uffizi, we had to take a bit of a walk down the busy street of Florence.
This is where we stopped and had a look at the Duomo.
I really liked this Duomo as it is very different to the one I saw in Milan (you can find that post here)
This massive building had a very different style to it with many green strips across it…

Excitingly when we went to purchase our tickets they had a really good deal going.
Because we went on Valentine’s Day they were doing two for one ticket prices!
We also decided to try out one of those guided tour headsets that allows you to learn all about all the works in the museum…
I had never tried one of these before but I would definitely recommend getting one if you are there! Basically all you do is enter the number that is one the artwork and the headset will explain the history of it, I learnt many things that I would have missed if I didn’t get the headset!

Major Artworks Found In the Uffizi
This Uffizi Gallery houses many different things…
The have many sculptures, different styles of paintings spanning over many centuries
There are some paintings done by Leonardo DaVinci, Michelangelo and many other famous artists from the renaissance period. It even has a foreign artist section featuring works from places like France and Spain…
The piece that I enjoyed the most was “The Birth of Venus”
Like every other museum, I wasn’t allowed to take any pictures…

Interesting Things I Noticed In the Uffizi
One thing that I realised is that during the time when the black plague was at its height the painting style seemed to change. It went to a much bleaker style with more gaunt looking people and using a more cartoonist look to the people which I thought was really interesting!
Another piece I enjoyed. This one actually had engravings in it which apparently is unusual
If you’re in Florence, definitely go to the Uffizi Gallery!
