Vision of Humanity: The Global Peace Index

Did you know that they have a measurement for almost everything, even peace?!

Vision of Humanity has a fantastic site dedicated to showing the peacefulness of the world’s nations.  It has an interactive map showing the global peace index of nations and it even shows you the changes throughout different years too (and it’s color coordinated for all you OCD’er out there reading!)

 The Vision of Humanity

The Global Peace Index

The world’s leading measure of national peacefulness, the Global Peace Index (GPI) measures peace according to 22 qualitative and quantitative indicators.

It’s no surprise that red equals bad…

The Global Peace Index Top 5 Peaceful Nations

  1.  Iceland
  2. Denmark
  3. New Zealand
  4. Austria
  5. Switzerland

Followed closely with Japan, many other Eastern European Countries, Canada & Australia.  Surprising to me is that the United States of America is more on the non-peaceful side of the Global Peace Index at 99 out of 162!

The Global Peace Index Top 5 Non-Peaceful Nations

  1. Afganistan
  2. Somalia
  3. Syria
  4. Iraq
  5. Sudan

Followed closely with other neighboring Middle Eastern Countries, African countries, Russia & North Korea.

The Global Peace Index Categories

There are really so many different categories to choose from and explore with the Global Peace Index.  You can customize your search results to:

  • Perceived criminality in society
  • Security officers and police
