Answer this Honestly: Are you Living your dreams?

Stop for a moment a seriously consider this question.

Are you living your dreams?

I’ll get this out of the way right now, this blog post isn’t going to be one of those cheesy, meaningless articles out there that puts pretty pictures up and tries to make you feel good.  Big boy and big girl pants need to be on.

I remember being a young kid and the big question everyone asks you is:

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Now I have reached my 20′s (getting awfully close to MID-twenties which means close to my LATE-twenties… Which means my thirties!)
I got my college education and got a job, went to the so-called “real world
so the broken, uninspired adults in my life called it…

One day I said something to a co-worker, she wanted to start a beauty salon business and asked what we thought of the idea.  Of course there were many answers like

It’s probably safer to have a job…

My response was a little different as I had started my journey to actually living my dreams:

Are you happy where you are?

There was a long pause in the group as we all realized that we weren’t happy with where we were.  This was a serious moment in my life where I truly took responsibility for where my best thinking got me.  My best thinking at the time led me to a job where I was being disrespected by my bosses, miserable and broken…

It wasn’t my bosses fault, not my parents, not the TV – it was my fault for playing it safe and not playing big in life, not living my dreams.  I thought back to when I was a young child… Did any of those adults actually practice what they preached?
When they said you can do anything you want in life, you can be anything…

No they didn’t…

At least not in my circle of influence.

Are You Living Your Dreams – It’s a Choice

Just because the people that I had surrounded myself with my whole life weren’t living their dreams, it doesn’t mean that it’s normal not to.
There are thousands of people everyday and in history that prove that your circumstances don’t determine your future.  The classic “rags to riches”
story, the disabled person showing the world that the CAN do it, people addicted to drugs turning their life around and living their dreams.

It’s all proof that living your dreams is a choice.

Living an average life, just getting by is a choice.

There’s a simple solution to this problems though, all you need to do is surround yourself with people who think that living your dreams is a normal thing to do.  Problem solved!

There are benefits of being average as well as benefits of being wealthy.

Although it may be common to be average but it is not by any means normal.
Dorothea Brande once wrote in her classic book “Wake up and Live”
about the will to fail.  The will to fail?! you may be thinking, why would anyone want to fail?!  To answer is simple – the average person does not succeed at very much.  Whether that may be marriage, their job, business ventures – anything.
So by breaking away from the heard, you are in many ways challenging “the masses”
way of thinking.  You begin to challenge everything that they know about life.
You will begin to challenge that you can actually be living your dreams!

Act as if it were impossible to fail

The masses will spend their time talking about what everyone else in the heard is doing, playing follow the follow, following each other on the road to nowhere.

So are you actually living your dreams?

If you are not living your dreams it is your own doing.

If you have young children, they will eventually catch on to the fact that you aren’t walking the talk.  What kind of example do you want to set for them?

If you wake up in the morning dreading the day ahead, it isn’t any one else’s fault but yours.  I was in that position not very long ago, after I said to my my dreams and working towards improving not only my life but the life of my girlfriend, my family and my future children.

One my morning walk with the Dog this morning!

Now instead of wishing my day was over before it began I wake up with a burning desire to succeed in life.  I get to work less and structure my days how I want to.  I don’t have to ask permission to eat, go to the bathroom, take my girlfriend to the hospital when she needed surgery recently.
