Can we do whatever we set our hearts and minds to?

Is it just a question of convincing ourselves that we can do something that makes it possible……or do we need someone else to encourage us to try something before we ‘just do it’?

I remember the very first time as a kid, I was told to jump into a swimming pool (the shallow end) and how terrified I was, even though I knew that my feet would touch bottom. Do you recall when you first got into a automobile and sat behind the wheel? How scared were you? I know I was, especially when I tried to steer the car, work the pedals, look in the rear view AND look ahead all at the same time. And then there’s that first kiss……….but that’s another story. Fear is nearly always irrational but often needs to be overcome before the good stuff happens.

I am sure we can all recall many ‘firsts’ when we were either a little hesitant or scared witless! But ultimately I guess we plunged ahead, and in most cases it turned out just fine.

Well, did it shock and surprise you? The way Travis overcame his fear was nothing short of spectacular. What a voice! And the proposal at the end really was the icing on the cake. As a musician, I know only too well the perils of performing in public. I had a friend who was working towards becoming a professional concert pianist and was really talented. When he was playing in private for friends and family he was truly awesome…..but put him in a public performance situation and he would go to pieces. He used to describe to me that he imagined that the piano keys were actually moving on him he was so fearful. You’ll be pleased to know that eventually he overcame his fears and went on to enjoy a remarkable career, but once again it shows that fear can eat away at you and destroy your confidence.

The video really proved to me that great things can happen once you take the plunge and commit. At Empower Network we specialize in people who have ‘taken the plunge’.
