What is a Blockquote Tag?
An HTML blockquote tag must be used to identify any content that is not original in your blog post, referred to as curated content. In other words, if you didn’t create the content, then you need to present the curated content (content that you did not create) in a blockquote by using HTML blockquote tags around that content.
It is critical to create blockquotes using the html blockquote tag format for all curated content. Remember to give credit where credit is due.
The blogging format I use makes it easy to create blockquotes with the html blockquote tag format. It’s basically click, copy and paste, and click. Blockquote Examples
For example, if I wanted to provide a definition for HTML blockquote tag, I could quote a definition from another website and the blockquote style would be:
HTML Blockquote Tag, Definition of blockquote tag in html5… The blockquote tag is used for indicating block of quotation including multiple lines or paragraph. This tag represents the section of text which is quoted from any other resource. We can use multiple blockquote tags in our document as per requirement. This tag must have start and end tag. Steps for Creating the HTML Blockquote Tag
Note: The above video may contain instructions that are slightly different than the selections you see on your current version of WordPress. For example, with an Empower Network blog your currently can select the b-quote button in the Text mode to start the blockquote as indicated below and then select the /b-quote button to end the blockquote.
Using the Text Tab:
1. Click on the Text tab of your editor (or the tab that shows your post in html format).
2. The easiest method to create the html blockquote tags is to use shortcut buttons at the top of the Text window.
First, create the opening blockquote tag.
After identifying the content to be included in the blockquote click on the b-quote button.
Note: If your blog editor doesn’t have that button, then enter the following html blockquote tag before the content: <blockquote>.
3. Enter a title for the blockquote by copying content from the selected website (preferably one that contains your primary keyword/keyword phrase) and pasting it after the opening html blockquote tag in your blog post.
4. From the selected website, copy the content to be curated and paste it into the blockquote after the title. I like to place … after the title and before the curated content.
And I include only the part of the content that is necessary to explain the points I need to make in the blog post. Then I place … at the end of the content copied into the blog post. That way the reader knows that more information on the topic is available at that website.
5. Once all curated content has been copied into your blog, you must create an end html blockquote tag. Simply select the /b-quote button in the menu bar of the Text editor. A ending blockquote tag of </blockquote> will be placed in the html code for your post to end the blockquote.
If you do not have the /b-quote button , then you can enter the following code to end the blockquote: </blockquote> .
If you do not create the ending blockquote tag. then the remainder of the content in your blog post will be presented in blockquote format.
6. Create a link to the website where you obtained the curated content and make sure that link is created using content that includes your primary keyword/keyword phrase.
Place the cursor over your primary keyword/keyword phrase in the blockquote, select the link button from the menu bar, enter the url for the curated content, select to have the link open in a new window/tag, and select Add Link.
Note: Depending on the blogging platform or the version of WordPress you are using, the steps may be slightly different. Basically, you need to create the outgoing link to the source of the curated content and make sure that if someone elects to click on the link that the url opens in a different window/tab. You always want the visitor to your site to be able to return easily to your blog post.
7. Return to Visual mode and check the format of the blockquote. You may need to clean up the look of the blockquote by changing spacing of lines etc. depending on how the content copied into your blog post.
8. Save the draft of your blog post by selecting the Save Draft button in the right-hand menu of the blog editor page.
Using the Visual Tab:
1. Click on the Visual tab of your editor.
2. The easiest method to create the html blockquote tags is to use shortcut quotation mark button at the top of the Visual window.
Place the cursor in the place in your blog post where you want the blockquote to be placed. and click the quotation button.
After identifying the content to be included in the blockquote, in our example the definition of the HTML blockquote tag, click on the quotation mark button.
3. Enter a title for the blockquote by copying content from the website selected (preferably content that contains your primary keyword/keyword phrase) and pasting it where the cursor is in your blog post.
4. From the selected website copy the content to be curated and paste it into the blockquote after the title. I like to place … after the title and before the curated content.
And I include only that part of the content that is necessary for the topic of my blog post. Then I place … at the end of the content copied into the blog post. That way the reader knows that there is more information on the topic available at that website.
5. Once all curated content has been copied into the blog post, create an end html blockquote tag. Simply select the quotation button in the menu bar of the Visual editor. This places an ending blockquote tag that ends the blockquote format.
If you do not create the ending blockquote tag, the remainder of the content in your blog post will be presented in blockquote format.
6. Create a link to the website where you obtained the curated content and make sure that link is placed using content that includes your primary keyword/keyword phrase.
In my example, I placed the cursor over the words HTML5 Blockquote Tag, the subject of the blockquote, selected the link button from the menu bar, entered the url for the curated content, selected to open the link in a new window/tag, and selected Add Link.
