Should I ping a blog post or not? From the research I completed in Google in preparation for this post, I found that this was not such a simple question to answer. I found varying opinions on the topic. And since I ping all blog posts, I took a closer look.
The ping a blog post process is really not that complicated if all sides of the story are reviewed.
Have you ever wondered why or why not you should ping a blog?
When I ping a blog post I am advising the search engines and blog directories that I have placed new content on my blog so that they will come take a look and make note of the new content. The idea is that a blog post will be seen faster by the crawlers for these sites than by just waiting for the normal process to take place. The faster a site is crawled to find the new content, the sooner the blog post has a chance to be indexed and ranked. Note that pinging a blog post does not mean that it will rank well. There are many other factors that affect how a blog post will rank.
For the purposes of this content, pinging is being discussed as it pertains to a blog post. But pinging can be done for any type of content posted to the internet such as for videos and press releases. So don’t forget to ping these types of content as well.
And note that to ping a blog post is to notify many search engines, blogging directories, social bookmarking sites and RSS feeds.
