Who Get The Reward?

Being in the corporate work space for many years I’m beginning to see patterns in the way business was operated and it’s not in favour of the real operators of the company.

Take this for instants; I would arrive on time everyday with a smile and an attitude that expresses that I’m here to do my best. I would do the utmost best work that I was capable according to the orders of operation and would leave with the satisfaction that the pat on the back meant that I would be recognized for my efforts.

As years past I noticed that the same praise offered to me for my outstanding efforts was also being given to others who gave more of themselves during coffee breaks rather than on the task at hand.

What did it mean. Was my work not being recognized anymore. Why is that guy worthy of praise, he useless.

All these questions rattle my head until I could no longer take it and applied for a management position with in the company. Would you believe me if I told you that things got better? No quite.

Things at the management level got worse. I was no longer a pawn anymore and move up to a rook. I at least had a little more flexibility in what I was doing but after some time doing that I still felt as if there was something missing.

Yeah, I was still getting the [now occasional] pat on the back and received a bonus from time to time as a result of the work that those under me did but it still wasn’t enough for me. What was I not receiving from all this work that I was putting in day after day?

It was until I learned how to play the game of chess of all things to notice what I was feeling in the work I was doing. I chess the object of the game is to take the other players king and protect yours in the process. In the corporate world it’s the same idea. The kings [and queens] sit in the high towers as the employees fight not only to protect the kings foundation but also their own keep [read: jobs] while the kings [and queens] get recognized as though they put in all the effort.

{Don’t get me wrong I’m not stating that all corporation are evil and slimy just the one who put the dollar before people}

The game of chess helped me to create the metaphor for the corporate scene really operates and I knew from that moment what I was missing…real recognition not from a cold pat on the back but real “welcome to the corporate ladder” recognition. I was looking for fulfillment with what I was doing and a pat on the back and a bi-weekly paycheque wasn’t enough.

I was hungry for the recognition that said YES…I did my best and because of my contributions the quality of life for the people who are benefiting from my effort are now living well as a result. I needed to find an outlet where my creativity could flow and in doing so help create a better quality of life of other people.

But what job was going to give me the freedom and flexibility to allow my creative genius run wild within spending six thousand years in school?

So I turned to the internet where I was able to find ways and means of expressing myself creatively in a loving and harmonious way through blogging. Who knew.

Today I have taken on the role of entrepreneur and even though the beginning stages were rough I managed to create a good living for myself and this is not talking financial terms either. It took me some time to get going after countless attempts. I did everything the way my ego told me to do it until I really became a master of myself and realize the only way to be successful was to take the focus of myself and on to the people I am to serve.

The way I look at business now is that I know that there are people out there with challenges that I know my creative mind can solve if I apply myself the right way. This involves an in depth searching of the soul to find the real being behind it all.

Is going into business fun? I would love to say yes but then I would be lying to you and that’s now way for me to start our relationship together. Yes, I said relationship because how else are you to know all the real juicy bits about myself.

I’ll be honest with you by saying that I still don’t understand how people in this community have created such extraordinary lives for themselves and their families. However, I’m sure I will one day be joining the ranks of those who started out just like me and have made to the top in this industry.

These is one thing I can say about it all that I never expected and that is that i have a greater appreciation for the world. I wake with a sense of gratitude every morning. I look forward to the day ahead. I’m no longer part of that pattern that follows a linear plain.

You must by now be feeling a sense of where I’m coming from if you to are feeling stuck in your position whatever it may be. Whatever it is realize that you do have the choice change what ever is not in your favour. No one is saying that it’s going to be easy but rest assured that if you stay with it your life will never be the same again.
