There is a power that lies behind goal setting that goes over looked in many instances and in this post your going to learn my 3 simple steps for setting and achieving goals.
In my journey to discover the secrets of the worlds most successful people if found that they all had one thing in common. Not only did they all set goals and took massive action to achieve them but they were very specific as to how the goal was written out.
Now I can probably take a wild guess of what yours saying to yourself at this moment – “I set goals for myself that I thought were easy enough to attain but I could never get it to work for me. This goal setting thing doesn’t work for people like me I’m just going to continue hoping.”
For those of us who have tried and failed in the goal setting department this simple 3 step process for setting and achieving goals will help you make goal setting easy and fun.
My 3 simple steps for setting and achieving goals THE RIGHT WAY!
1) Write the goal in the present
My start in the goal setting department resembled that of someone throwing a penny into a wishing well. The “I want plenty of money” or “I want to live in a big mansion” approach was how I would write my goals and would wonder why I wasn’t achieving anything at all. I did everything the gurus said to do – “Write your goal on a card and carry it in your pocket and look at it as many times during the day as you can.” I did that and still no goal achieved.
Then I discovered NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and how to properly communicate with the subconscious mind in ways that guarantee success. I found that in order for our goals to be achieved we need to write your goal in a way that gets our subconscious to believe that the goal was already achieved. The interesting thing about the subconscious mind is that it doesn’t know the difference between what is real and what is imagined but it does go to work immediately on creating the physical object of the image it sees based on the way the goal is written.
Once I learned this I went to work on rewriting my goals as if they were already achieved. Sounds weird I know but allow me to show you what I mean.
The second goal of – “I want to live in a big mansion” – was reworded to – I am now enjoying a relaxing afternoon with family and friends from my 21,000 square ft estate property overlooking our beautiful vineyard here in the South of France.” This is a much better way to write out a goal because takes your imagination on a ride were you now can actually see the end result of the goal even before it’s created in the physical.
“If you’re going to dream, dream big” – Donald Trump
2) Don’t be afraid to DREAM BIG
A lot of the time we may think of a goal as out of our reach when we look at our current state of affairs. This limited thinking leads to the death of a goal before it’s even started. Donald Trump is a prime example of someone not afraid to dream big. His “If you’re going to dream, dream big” motto has carried him to heights literally all over to world and branded him a Billionaire.
So when you are setting your goals don’t limit yourself to what you think you can achieve because there are unexplainable forces within you that go to work for you behind the scenes [read: beyond conscious awareness] that look for the evidence that goes into creating the physical manifestation of the goal your imagined.
3) Focus on the WHAT and not the HOW
Lastly, don’t be to concerned with how your goal is going to be achieved. Like I mentioned in the last step, leave that to a power greater than your imagination can comprehend. There are forces at work within you now assisting you on getting through is post just like there are forces that alert you when there is something not quite right or if your survival is at risk. Forces beyond our conscious awareness that are working for us even when we are asleep. This force is the same force that runs our body’s and get us through that day. Could you imagine running every function of the body consciously? We would die within seconds.
So when we are writing you goals [in the present tense] focus on WHAT you want and leave the rest up to is often referred to as the universe.

Great tips for goal setting Geoffrey! It is definitely beneficial to dream big and focus with clarity on what it is you want. When the HOW comes your way (and it may not come in the package you expect), we must be ready to take massive action.
What amazingly simple steps to goal setting Geoffrey! Too many get hung up on the “hows” and using disempowering self talk. Just tweaking our words a bit to speak what we have into existence is brilliant! Thanks so much for sharing this. You’re leading the way!
Goal setting has been HUGE in taking our business to the next level. This is something I have struggled with over the years, but once you get routine down it can really make a big difference. I especially like #2. There is never a dream too big for us set the goal for, and once we start tackling that list of goals, our dreams move closer and closer into focus, and life starts to do something amazing 🙂
