Most of us have come from some sort of job and never really thought about becoming an Internet Entrepreneur. But, sometimes circumstances lead us to new opportunities.
If you are considering becoming an Internet Entrepreneur, or have already embarked on your journey to success, then you will need to change some of your habits – physical and mental.
Becoming an Internet Entrepreneur – Change is Good
When you work in a regular job, I don’t care if it’s corporate, retail, labour, whatever, you get into habits based on the nature of your work, and the structure of the business. The company, or your boss, even your customers, expect you to do things in a certain way. It’s the norm.
If you are becoming an Internet Entrepreneur, then you get to create your own structure, you’re own habits. And, changing your habits to benefit yourself and your business instead of your boss or someone else’s business, is a good thing.
Becoming an Internet Entrepreneur – It’s Not Easy
Changing your habits, is not always easy. When becoming an Internet Entrepreneur, you will take a deeper look into yourself and your capabilities. You will soon recognize what needs to change in order to be productive and ultimately successful.
Habits can be learned and unlearned. Unlearning is not a quick fix.
Think about habits people try to undo like quitting smoking, eating less junk food, or my favourite – procrastinating. They’re not easy to overcome, but with some planning, discipline and desire, you can change what you do, and even how you think.
Think of some work habits you might have.
– Do you always check your email first thing in the morning, and keep popping in their all day?
– Do you always wait to be told what to do?
– Do you always put personal life before work?
– Are you always late for meetings, calls or appointments?
Whatever it is, bad habits will make you very unproductive when becoming an Internet Entrepreneur. You’ll need to adjust your attitude and priorities and make some changes.
Most people can’t change a pile of habits all at once, so just work on one.
Your First Challenge – keep your personal life to a minimum while your working.
– No Facebook
– No personal phone calls
– No texting
– No visitors
If you’re becoming an Internet Entrepreneur you are likely going to be working out of your home. Create a work environment that is conducive to running a business. Too many distractions and you won’t get anything done. Your business will suffer.
Tell your family what your schedule is and ask not to be interrupted. Let personal calls go to voice mail. Schedule friend time for the occasional lunch or coffee, but keep those events to a minimum and don’t get derailed by spending all day out and about.
Becoming an Internet Entrepreneur – Learn From Others
When you start making habit changes in your life, you will find that you also open your mind to other possibilities. Change is good, but a I mentioned, it is not always easy.
Your attitude and desire to succeed will take you far when becoming an Internet Entrepreneur.
And don’t feel like you have to figure it out for yourself. There are so many resources to tap into.
I’d recommend the following two books. They are not specifically about how to be an entrepreneur, but more about changing your own mindset, and how you look at yourself and how you interact with other people.
Both of these are still very relevant today:
How To Win Friends and Influence People, by Dale Carnegie
and
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Steven Covey
Your journey will be rewarding, fulfilling and a heck of a lot of fun. Good luck on becoming an Internet Entrepreneur.
