Is your ladder leaning on the right building?

Life is a climb. A ladder climb. A staircase climb. Doesn’t really matter what the metaphor is. But it should always be a climb (because you should always be rising and getting better!)

But what’s in store for you at the top? Is it mediocrity? Or is it something you really want?

“The Corporate Ladder is nice!”

There is nothing inherently wrong with the Corporate Ladder, in my opinion. Many people make decent livings with the Corporate Ladder.

However, is that what you want? Do you want to work 40 hours a week (though these days unpaid overtime seems to be the new 40) and become one of the many who can hardly survive off their diminishing pension?

The chances are, you just want to provide for your family. These days, anything outside of that is sometimes seen as an unnecessary luxury.

Unnecessary, perhaps. But why not get it if you can?

Just ask yourself: What sort of lifestyle do you want? Rather than making your lifestyle cater to your career, why not make your career cater to your lifestyle?

All you need to do is to climb the ladder whose top gets you to where you want to go. How do you know where the ladder leads? See if there’s anyone who has climbed that ladder, and look at their lifestyle. Don’t just look at what they have. Look at who they are–are they good people? Charitable? Good leaders? Those are good questions to ask about the top of the ladder.

Second: How do you know that ladder will work for you? Again, see other people who have climbed that ladder. See if their steps to the top are duplicatable. See if you can do it. Their method may not be easy, but if it’s simple, then why not give it a try?

Ask yourself this: what’s in store for you at the top of your ladder? If that’s not where you want to go, why are you climbing that ladder?

It’s important to keep yourself open-minded when it comes to this process. Just because society has raised you to think one way, doesn’t mean that anything that breaks the mold is wrong or unethical. I encourage you to do all of your due diligence of course! But don’t just shrug it off because it has a bad MyWOT rating (to put into perspective, some torrent sites have a good MyWOT rating, so there’s that), or because some organization is against it.

Just do your own due diligence, and never agree with a bottom line if their arguments don’t make sense or if you simply don’t agree with their arguments.

Whatever it is, find the right ladder, and do everything you can to climb to the top of that ladder.
