How a Spell of Magic Led to Chocolate Cake

“I knew if I said ‘dessert’ I could get you stay,” my friend laughed at me as we were enjoying a slice of salted caramel chocolate cake at P.F. Chang’s.

Magic

Magic Cake!

Who knew I was so predictable?

Only a few short minutes earlier I was saying I had to head out so I could beat the late afternoon LA traffic (like I stood a chance at that anyway.)

I laughed and took another delicious bite of this sweet, salty, buttery treat…grateful that I had someone to split it with instead of inhaling the entire thing!

It was a total coincidence that I ran into her.

Or was it?

Yesterday, I wrote a blog post on the 5 Steps to Creating Sales Magic.

Step One: Pay Attention to the Magic

My friend and I had been trying to get together for months. But we never seemed to make it happen. Last week, on Facebook, we planned to meet up for lunch this week.

Thursday rolled around and we still didn’t have a lunch date on the schedule.

On Wednesday afternoon, I found out I got an audition on Thursday at noon in Santa Monica.

So at about 11:00 am (after dealing with a continuing distraction of bad plumbing) I head out onto the Los Angeles roadways for my audition.

I get there early and find a fairly decent parking spot close by. I sit in the lobby with my fellow actors waiting for my turn. The office is behind today…way behind. I look at my brand new iPhone 5 (which is totally badass) and see that the time on my meter is about to expire.

Crap.

Only, I could only add 8 minutes.

Why?

Well, apparently Santa Monica has implemented some ridiculous parking policy where you can only park at the meter for an hour.

1 hour.

That’s it!

When you’re hour is up…you go now!

You can’t add additional time to your meter after your hour is up.

Well, I knew 8 minutes wasn’t going to cut it, so I started scanning the street for another available spot.

I see one close by and start to go for it.

BUT…

Damn…someone just snagged it.

So I run up the block and start looking down the cross street.

And just like magic, I see a spot close by. Yippee!

So I sprint back to my car, peel out of the parking spot, race up the street, zip around the corner and do my best not to bump any pedestrians.

I park, leap out of the car, dump more money into the meter and then sprint back to my audition.

I’m literally panting as I come in and I make a mental note to add more cardio to my workout regimen.

At 1:16, I wrap my audition…way, way behind schedule. As I head down the stairs to exit, I look up and who do I see?

MY FRIEND!!

After a big hug, we exchange a few words and plan to meet for our long awaited lunch after her audition.

How is that for magic?

I mentioned in yesterday’s blog to “Be on the lookout for little things that add up to a particular moment.”

(aka…the magic)

Look at all the things that had to happen for us to bump into each other today. We had set an intention of connecting, but look at how it manifested.

Completely unexpected.

Now it might not seem like that big of a deal, but when you are on the lookout for those magical moments, they happen more and more.

I mean, I just wrote about it yesterday.

Hello!

And as these small magical moments continue to add up, they can quickly lead to amazing events!

It was awesome to see my friend again after such a long time.

And it just goes to show, that something magical can happen to you at any time.

And that’s how a spell of magic led to chocolate cake.
