My Hugest Accomplishments, Proudest Moments And My “Why” …is all able to be celebrated on Mother’s Day
My 2 teenage children are the centre of my universe, the reason I do everything I do. I am so filled with gratitude for the presence of my 2 kids in my life everyday that on Mother’s day I feel I am celebrating them as much or more as they are celebrating me.
Recognizing that there will be a huge amount of content circulating for Mother’s day,
… I choose to still create my content
There will not be content like my article or my video. Just like there will not be another me, or another you. We are each unique and it is great to celebrate each other, ourselves as well as special days.
That being said … in order to be able to celebrate a special day like Mother’s day we must have children. Becoming a mom was the biggest responsibility that I have ever accepted. It is by far the most challenging and the most rewarding as well.
There is no greater emotion than unconditional love. The giving side is just as grand as the receiving end of unconditional love. I give and receive it freely.
Mashable shared Kid President’s message to Moms, it is heartfelt and quite humorous : )
I love hearing how kids reflect on life, situations and challenges. There is often a message we really should learn from their perspective. It is fitting this week as I have created a few articles that discuss perspective and switching perspective. Cognitive reframing is a formal way to define it. Accepting all the credit when things go great is my favorite reframing perk of being a single mom.
Sometimes we need to take a step back, recognize the humour in a situation, listen to a child’s opinion and/or change the question we are asking. We are sometimes able to find a better solution, feel a little more confident or accept. I know my kids have been a light in the darkness for me many times. They do not have the learned fears or applied limitations yet.
Kid president explains a few examples of this in his video above. In my video below, I touch on a couple more.
What are some of the special things you do to celebrate Mother’s Day?
My kids never make a big splash for Mother’s Day. They know that is not something that I expect or would really enjoy. What they do that makes my heart swell is small acts of kindness, unplanned and not discussed. My kids make gestures from the heart that have no $ cost, just unconditional love!
Don’t get me wrong, I would accept expensive gifts and lavish spoiling. There is just something so incredible about raw, vulnerable sharing that can only come from the heart.
Single parenting is not easy. Single parenting teenagers is certainly a challenge. On the upside, when we are single parents we get the privilege of accepting sole credit when everything turns out right! Being a single mom is not easy, although let me tell you as always… there are some major perks!
