No Pants? No Problem: Improv’s No Pants Subway Ride

The No Pants Subway Ride – brainchild of a New York prank collective, Improv Everywhere was the happenin’ thing in 60 cities in 25 countries on Sunday, January 13.
What is the No Pants Subway Ride?
Why no pants? The idea, according to Improv is to “cause scenes of chaos and joy everywhere.”
Further, the idea for those brave (or maybe just extroverted) souls who take part is to act totally unconcerned – no giggling, no goofiness – just another day’s ride to work.
Commuters just strip down to their underwear as they go about their normal routine.
January seems like a weird time to wear no pants – but I guess that’s why this is a No Pants Subway Ride – at least you’re out of the cold, like the guy above, in the Berlin subway.

The self-described ‘prank collective’ Improv Everywhere has organized the No Pants Subway Ride each year since 2002. More than 4000 brave souls did the pant-less subway ride this year, according to Improv Everywhere.
How do riders react to No Pants Subway Ride participants?
“Riders were bemused at the sight of bare legs dressed up with cowboy boots, high-top runners, deck shoes and in one case, Crocs with socks. Some asked for photos and others tried not to stare at the wide variety of underpants that were on display — from tightie-whities, Pac-Man boxer shorts, Minnie Mouse panties, pink bloomers, and traditional cotton and lace.”
With ages ranging from 7 months to 77 + years, this idea of having fun has taken off… in more ways than one!
