Producer or consumer?
So which one are you!?! In regards to your work from home business really think which one you are. One of these makes money while the other one spends. Sure we all like to think that we are making money with our business but unfortunately not everyone does It’s not because it’s hard to make money but because people tend to lack focus or quit too early in what they do. There’s only a tiny difference between a person who is succeeding vs a person who is not. Since the difference is small I always like to ask myself this question before I do anything, is what I’m doing something a producer or consumer would do?
Producer or consumer Facts
Producer or consumer fact # 1 – Learn and implement
Producers love to learn about their craft. They are constantly studying what they do. But unlike consumers they implement what they learn right away. They don’t need to know everything before taking action on anything. They will learn just enough so they can start implementing it and correct and tweak it along the way. The consumer will try to learn everything before even getting started.
For example say you want to start generating traffic through PPC (pay per click) so you buy a course on PPC to learn about it. It’s a robust course but has plans of action you can follow. The producer will likely learn enough to take action and then ACT! The opposite will happen to the consumer. The consumer will more than likely read or watch the whole course before even doing anything. Then at the end they’ll have too much in their heads and end up not doing anything. You’ll probably also see that same consumer go out there and buy another course to “learn” more. The consumer likely suffers from shiny toy syndrome which is where they just keep buying the next “great” thing that launches every day.
The producer will implement what he’s learned and eventually master that technique. Then that same producer will more than likely be able to outsource it since he’s a master at it and can teach others to do the same thing. The producer then has more time by outsourcing this and can now move on to another thing to learn or master.
This will be a never ending cycle for both producer or consumer. But for the producer it’s a great cycle because it will make him more money. But for the consumer it just keeps taking more and more money out of his or her pocket.
Producer or consumer fact # 2 – Producers focus on money making activities
Do you know about the pareto principle? Well in a nutshell it’s the 80/20 rule. Meaning 80 percent of your results come from 20 percent of your efforts and vice versa. In a day we all have tons of things we need to do. Things that don’t make us money and things that do. Well the producer focuses on the 20 percent that are money making activities and will delegate other things that don’t help him make money.
The consumer will be the person that is just doing busy work to be busy. It will be like things like cleaning the desk, getting on facebook etc… Just things that you need to do but don’t generally make you the money. Now don’t get me wrong there are things we need to do that don’t make us money but Producers know that they have to do their money making activities first before other things.
To tell you the truth I was once a big consumer. I would buy every course out there and just keep learning. I would read like one ebook a day and even watch videos all the time. I love internet marketing so I kept trying to learn everything. Then I started realizing that I wasn’t many any money at all. The sad part was when I first got started I actually made more than when I learned all this new stuff. So I decided to change that. I decided to just focus on a few things at a time and fully master something before moving on. I decided to defeat my shiny toy syndrome. I decided I wanted to be a producer not a consumer.
In conclusion if you feel like you are a consumer don’t feel bad. At one point or another a producer was once a consumer especially with internet marketing. But they eventually decided to start taking action on what they started learning. They started implementing what they learned. They focused on one and then they became that producer that they wanted to.
So now when you do anything for your business ask yourself this question, “Is what I’m doing making me a producer or consumer?”
