Mentoring For Free – Chapter 2 – Your Why

I’m reading Michael Dlouhy’s ebook “10 Steps to success” and intend to write about my thoughts and ideas to each chapter. Here goes chapter two:
Step 2 – Your Why
This chapter was an eye opener for me. While reading I thought: I think I am starting to get why people join a business and then don’t do anything or quit after a little while.
I have several people joing me in Empower Network but hardly any of them do anyting. And I wonder why join something, pay for it and don’t do anything? Don’t blog? Don’t even respond? Well, at least here I do get people to join me LOL in any other business I had hardly anyone join.
But why don’t a lot do anything with their opportunity?
I think I’m getting it: It has nothing to do with me. It just follows the rule:
90% of all new businesses fail in the first year.
And joining a company, is a new business.
Something may go wrong – They quit.
Something else comes up – They quit.
They don’t ask for help and cannot figure it out themselves – They quit.
The next shiny object comes along – They quit.
I bet you have been in a business, sponsoring people, they were excited. Even blogged about how excited they were and 48 hours later they don’t respond to you anymore. And because they don’t tell you, you don’t know why. It’s a bit frustrating, isn’t it? But you can bet it was one of those reasons above. Maybe there are more but those where the ones I came up with. Those are some of the reasons I heard from others especially the first one concerning Empower Network. But the technical problems we had here are in the past.
Let’s move on.
Your Why
If your why is strong enough you won’t follow those people and quit also.
Honestly, I’m not sure if I have a strong Why yet. I do have a Why of course: Freedom to do what ever I want to do when ever I want to do. And pick up the tab when I go out with friends. And show friends there are better ways then slaving away all day at some job.
But mostly, I think I’m just stubborn LOL
Someone does not want your success
Unfortunately it’s the people clotest to you. For some reason they seem to fear that when you do get succesfull and find your purpose in life that you will leave them.
Just the other day my mom asked me if I really wanted to keep on doing “this”, wouldn’t a job be better? I explained to her that in my age (getting to 50) and being self-employed for the last 10 and some years no company – unless with really strong vitamin C – would hire me. I’m a risk. I’ve tasted freedoom and will not stay too long in the slavery model too long.
Though I don’t think I convinced her I know there is one thing that will convince her: a check with a 5 figure number on it. Or maybe a debit card loaded every month with some money for her to use.
What to do?
If it’s friends who try to hold you back, get ridd of them. Those are not really friends. Family is a bit harder to get ridd off LOL I suggest you just don’t tell them what you do until you can show some real results.
I know, most sponsors and companies tell you to make a list of your friends and family and give them all a call. Of course it’s easier to talk to someone you know on the other hand, those are the ones who will not join you, listen to you, or believe you. Worse, they’ll try to talk you out of it.
Basically, you need to talk to your target market. And that’s people who also want what you want: more money, more freedom, help others, ______ (fill in the blank). How can you find them? Read the Ebook and find out
And have a strong WHY!
Or be stubborn and don’t quit for at least one year and give it your all.
Goal versus Why
First off, it’s not the same. A goal can be a new car. Think about it. Can wanting a new car be a WHY? You can reach a goal but a Why is so much bigger, it expands constantly. And it will keep you going. Having that new car… well, now you have a new car. What’s next?
Where’s your fire? What do you LOVE? What do you HATE? What is REALLY important to you? What do you REALLY want? What situation in life do you want to get out of so it never ever, EVER happens again?
Your real “WHY” is never money. It’s about who YOU really are. Your driving factor must be WAY more than money.
It’s something you want … or something you want to get away from. Better yet, BOTH. If your “WHY” is a 70% and you come up against an obstacle that’s a 72%, you’re gone. You’ll drop out, disappear.
Some WHYs don’t show themselves right away. So your first Why could be a 70% or even a 50%, let it grow. Be amongst other people who have strong Whys and find out theirs.
Someone wrote in his book, his Why was to get 1 million friends. And he considered everybody who bought his book a friend because he felt connected with them and they could get in touch with him.
Someone else wants to plant one millions trees. Or dig a thousand wells in Africa.
My Why is certainly not that big yet. Still looking for it. So for now I seddle with a smaller one plus with being stubborn I have no intention to quit Empower Network even if my sponsor did. Lucky me I’ve got a strong going Upline.
I want to be able to do what I want when ever I want. I want to be able to go where ever I want. I want to be able to live where ever I want. Money will not be an object. If I want to pick up the tab or invite a lonely person I can do that. Ultimate freedom. I don’t want amass millions of dollars or what ever currency. I want to have a monthly cashflow that easily covers all of my expenses, no matter what I am doing.
Avoid Pain or Achieve Pleasure
It’s either the one or the other. Very very often it’s the first one. I don’t want to go into all the questions that’ll help you find your why because this blog post will get too long and you can download the ebook and print out page 24 so you can make notes.
How many Whys do you have?
I always thought that you have to have one big Why. Well, seems you can have more than one. That’s a relief.
