3 Spots on the Entrepreneurial Brain

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Do you have an entrepreneurial brain?

Do you have an entrepreneurial brain?

The entrepreneurial mind is not much different from anyone else’s mind, with just a few little tweaks that can make it soar. I have had several companies over the years and have known many business owners and these are the key differences in the way a entrepreneur approaches the challenges and successes in life.

1.  Delayed Glory! Picture yourself on a sports team and showing up for the beginning of the training season.  Your coach will have you do trainings in fundaments, drills and my favorite ‘wind sprints’.  There are not any games that need to be played in the near future, the focus of this time is to build yourself up and get tempered for the game.  This is a lot like being an entrepreneur.  There is a lot of action up front where there is no payoff or payout.  This time is for building and creating momentum.  The glory happens later when all of your hard work pays off in exponential payouts.

2. Upward Movement Always! When a person is an employee, they tend to do exactly what is necessary to keep the job that they have.  The idea to exceed only comes up around promotion and review time.  This is okay, since most people won’t want to excel beyond a nine to five job.  For the entrepreneur, this is a deadly mindset.  The need to always have projects being worked on is essential to an entrepreneur’s mindset.  Activities that promote marketing and sales are always necessary and will always payoff at some point.

3.  Excellence is stifling! An entrepreneur knows that they always need to put their best foot forward, BUT an entrepreneur also knows that they cannot be afraid to fail.  ’There is no such thing as ‘bad press”.  This is incredibly important.  An entrepreneur knows that any action is better than no action.
