Springtime is finally here.

Well Springtime is finally here in the South East of the UK.

Today must be the first time this year so far that it’s been wall to wall sunshine and although the wind has a chilly edge to it it’s been a great day to be out in the garden. The temps have made it up to 15C in the sheltered part of the garden which is away from the breeze. Springtime will head into April when we get the usual showers.

Depite the need to get on and do some serious marketing today it ended up with a great lunch down towards Rayleigh and having a wander around the local DIY store for some planting material for Joan to start planting out seeds for the tomato plants and several other plants. It’s even getting warm enough in the greenhouse for the automatic windows to open. Cooking.

As we have a log burner we had to sort out some more wood for it and as it was a dry day, we’re expecting rain mid-week, it seemed a great opportunity to set sail with the chainsaw and maul. Well that was the cardiac exercise for the day and after having tea and cream cakes half way through we must have chopped and stored a half ton of the stuff. Should see us through to the end of the month and all being well the end of the fire season.

Springtime is just great.

It’s getting to my favorite time of the year with the days getting longer and we’re able to get out later in the day and early evening. Joy of all joys the clocks over here get changed at the end of the month so that’s a further hour of daylight to enjoy. Just need some temp to go with it.

Whilst I like all the seasons of the year for the changes it provides Springtime is particularly special as it’s the start of new growth in the garden. Snowdrops and crocuses are popping up everywhere including in the middle of the lawn. Well they would as I planted them there some years ago:-) I just have to be cautious when mowing not to chop them down until all the leaves have gone brown and rejuvenated the bulbs.

The issue with all this outside work is the clearing up afterwards as various tools have to be degunged, technical term, and put away again. I only smashed one glasshouse window and broke one plant pot during the splitting process. These bit of logs go everywhere!!! The next job will be finding a piece of glass to fit the window I smashed. Luckily it’s only a back up glasshouse and we only keep stuff in the that’s not affected by the frost and cold.

Back to the marketing tomorrow as nothing happens unless I get to it despite the springtime delights.
