Close your eyes and it’s Paradise.
Every time I hear this song although the video doesn’t match my feelings it always reminds me of the great Olympics and Para’s held last year in the UK. I’ve talked about it before on a previous blog message but it just goes to show how a song carries so much attachment to particular memories.
What does music do for you and what memories do they engender? Leave a note at the bottom with your favorites. It’s strange that you can hear an old tune from years ago and you still remember all the words and even recall the precise moment and also what you were doing and who with when the music was playing.
Paradise remembered.
For myself I associate records such as a duo called Peter and Gordon rendition of “Please lock me away” with my short period in the late sixties when I was working in a boat building unit. I was underneath a recently built clinker built dingy and what was called hardening off the rivetting. It was a deafening experience lying inside the shell of the boat while someone was hammering on the other side of the boat. You also had to keep up with which copper nail he was hitting. Not easy when you can’t see them. The dolly, a lump of metal, which you held on the other side of the nail got quite heavy after about half an hour:-)
Another piece of music that conjures up a reminder is the Righteous Brother and their “You’ve lost that loving feeling” which brings back a teenage relationship I had while I spent a lot of time at a friends house. The owners were into horses in a big way and the wife was the one to teach me how to ride. Well after a fashion. There were a number of young girls who used to come over to learn as well and I got together with a girl called Sharon. She and I hit it off quite quickly and although we were both in our early teens we thought we’d be lifelong lovers. True paradise Unfortunately her father didn’t see it the same way. He shipped her off to a boarding school and I lost contact after a few letters. Nice girl and I wonder what happened to her and how her life turned out. That song was playing on the radio most of the time we were together and it stuck in there.
Paradise lost.
I even remember a favorite of my fathers, it was called “Ebb Tide” but I don’t remember who sung it. Others from my childhood were Les Paul’s “How High the moon” I think. It was the one where he played all the instruments and phased them all together in what was, I believe, the first time this had been done. Still a great tune today. “Little Brown jug” was the first tune I could actually play on a ukelele although that was when I was ten along with my learning to knit which is another story altogether. My brother took up the guitar but my playing ended there. Not sure if I remember the chords for my tune!!
So what’s been your memories?? Leave a comment. Enjoy your day, you certainly deserve it. It’s your paradise.
