Just came across this five minute clip about the launch of a space sail that will enable scientists to tell for one thing when a star may well explode. As it’s an enormous solar type sail when it’s fully expanded it will power itself just using the sun’s power and for the time being that’s a fairly reliable source.satellites
Solar sailing is all the thing these days.
In the film the lady presenting brings up the point that it’s ten years since the crash of the shuttle and the unfortunate death of all seven astronauts. What wasn’t originally known was that some creatures survived the impact. There were a collection of worms for one that lived to tell the tale along with a number of others.
Giant solar sail.
This enormous solar sail will also be able to pick up potential colliding asteroids and meteors heading our way. Of course it can power itself about and manoeuvre to get the best possible readings.
It’s quite amazing what science will come up with next. I’m expecting a time machine at least in the next few years and telecommuting a bit like the “Fly” movie should be possible this century if not in the next fifteen years. Forever the optimist me:-) It would save a fortune on fuel costs by cutting out flying and travelling by car as all we would do is get into our personal home cubicle and dial in the destination and then we are off and dematerialised and rematerialised when we arrive.
I just remembered we are expecting a meteorite next Friday 15th Feb so I’d better get a move on. As you probably know it’s coming close if you call 17500miles close but I wonder what, if any, affect it will have on our weather system globally. Maybe nothing but I’ll keep an eye out for it. I understand it could come between us and some of our communication satellites which may effect make a phone call if not something more serious. I’ll just pop down the shops and get my fallout shelter and start digging a hole in the garden to bury it. Not.
It’s a shortish one today so enjoy your weekend. and have a great week. Solar for now
