TomM

Seven posts sit here, and one of them earns the visit on its own. Tom manages restaurants and has done for a couple of decades, and he opens by giving new managers the four things the job actually asks: work hard, have fun, make money, go home.

What follows that list is the part worth reading. He argues the pace of a shift belongs to whoever runs it, that fifteen people cannot break their backs while four cruise, and that a leader who has never stated the expectation out loud has no standing to be annoyed when nobody meets it. Anyone who has stood in a kitchen doorway at seven on a Friday knows how true that lands.

Around it he thinks about commitment in the same plain way, testing the idea of being all in against a marriage, a mortgage and a job you only show up to three days in five. There is a leadership lesson drawn from scripture, and a couple of news and baseball pieces that will not hold you long.

Start with the restaurant management post, then read the one on commitment.
