Start With Your Why

why-how-whatWhat does it take to lead and inspire others to take action?

Whether it’s to get employees to complete a task or customers to buy a product, Simon Sinek has a simple but powerful model for inspirational leadership all starting with the question “Why?”

All great leaders understand that the value of your “why” is a bigger driver of success, than your “how” or “what.”

Watch this enlightening video below as Simon explains…

People don’t buy what you do; people buy why you do it.

I heard it said over and over by my mentors… “Toby, you need to know your Why if you want to be successful.”  Your “why” is the core reason you what you do in business and in life.

It’s your mission.

Defining your why will help you overcome obstacles that you will inevitability encounter along your journey because you’ll know exactly “why” you’re there.   So I thought I would mine down in a blog post.

It can take some brainstorming and soul-searching to figure out your big “why”. You have to really sit down and think about what is important to you, but in a way which is bigger than yourself.

Deep down, we all want to make a mark in this world. After all, you can’t bring your money with you when you die.

Like most entrepreneurs, my reason for starting a business was to make money. I wanted the ability to buy the things I wanted, take my family out to eat (at nice restaurants), stop driving junk cars, live in a nice neighborhood in a home that’s paid for and take multiple vacations each year.

But my motivation was making money and ‘me’ focused. This isn’t what really drove me to push forward when things got tough.

For those who think business exists to make a profit, I suggest they think again. Business makes a profit to exist. Surely it must exist for some higher, nobler purpose than that” – Ray Anderson

Now I realize realized that my true purpose in life is to inspire others to realize and live their highest potential by empowering them to transform their lives and break free of the chains that keep them stuck where they are. Whether it be their limiting beliefs, a lack of a skill set (online marketing) or their crappy day job.

By helping other aspiring online entrepreneurs prosper, I know that I will prosper as well.

Like Simon, I imagine a world in which the vast majority of us wake up every single day inspired to go to work and return home fulfilled by the work that we do. If only more people got in touch with their big “Why,” it would make the world a better place, a world filled with optimism and inspired leaders.

To Your Success,

Attraction marketing expert
