Today I’m sharing one of the articles written by me personally on how to improve performance at work. It’s all about the first step you need to take on your leadership journey before doing anything else. Just make sure you leave me some feedback and comments below once you’ve finished reading it.
If a person wants to know how to improve performance at work in 30 days or less, the first thing they’re going to have to do is commit to being a better leader. I’m going to be sharing a very brief overview of the steps people can take to get there quickly in this section.
I’m not going to spend any time explaining the details on how this foundational message came about but it was developed a lot earlier than “The Show Up Step Out & Shine Leadership Method” and has a very different story of how it came to be.
Not only does it talk about becoming a better leader, it talks about how people can perform at a high level to get where they want to go in life no matter what their current circumstances may be. I highly recommend picking up a copy because it will go into a lot more detail than this section but let me get you started here.
The first step in the process of learning how to improve performance at work is to Show Up on a daily basis mentally.
People have to become fully present, engaged, and focused on the role that they will be playing.
This will allow them to be a better leader in their mind first so they can develop higher confidence levels to conduct more leadership activities which will help them become a better leader in the end. Everything that people have done and everything that people want to do all starts in the mind.
This makes it possible for people to do anything that their heart desires which is why we start here. We must get this right from the very beginning. Some other things people can do to cultivate their minds is to read more books on the subject of leadership, attend seminars, listen to audio programs on the way to and from work, join a community of like minded people, find a mentor or coach, etc.
When a person immerses themselves in learning everything that they possibly can about leadership, they will be blown away by how much they have grown in such a short period of time.
The second step they are going to have to do in order to learn how to improve performance at work is to Step Out.
If people are really serious about becoming better leaders, they have to be willing to do things very different from what most people would do. In the last step, I recommended that people start investing in themselves by getting their hands on as many personal development products as possible that have to do with leadership.
I hate to say it but most people will let that advice go in one ear and immediately out of the other at the speed of sound. These items can be found anywhere between free and thousands of dollars anywhere on the Internet.
Even if all of these items were free, most people would not be willing to at least take a few minutes to invest in themselves. There are so many benefits to doing this. I would say that there are probably more positive benefits to doing these things then to not doing them at all. These activities will not only build people’s skill levels but they will also build their income levels.
These activities will also help people become so valuable that they will never ever have to worry about job security and people still won’t do them. There is not as much competition out there as people think when they choose to Step Out and do things very different than most.
The last step in the process of learning how to improve performance at work is to Shine.
Leaders have to be good role models and in order for them to get their people to perform at their best, they have to perform at their best. To do this, I recommend using the S.H.I.N.E. formula on how to improve performance at work.
Let’s break it down the steps on how to improve performance at work as follows:
S – (Spot Opportunity) this means that a leader should always be looking for opportunities to improve their personal performance. To become a better leader, a leader needs to always be getting better at what they do and in order to do this they have to be ready and aware to spot the opportunities.
H – (Hold Yourself Accountable) this means that once a person makes the decision to be a leader, they have to hold them self accountable to higher standards than they would for their people. They have to always live their life as a role model that people want to follow and work to be someday.
I – (Invest in Yourself) this means that a person has to consistently be willing to learn something new every day and always have an open mind. Personal development is one of the most under utilized concepts known to man. One of my mentors who is no longer living unfortunately said that “Traditional education will earn you a living but self education will earn you a fortune”. Not only that, it will also catapult your skill level and make you better at what you do.
N – (New Habits) this means that in order for a person to become a better leader, they’re going to have to start doing some things differently. In order to do this they’re going to have to create new habits.
E – (Expect Excellence) this means that a person has to always be willing to only expect the best from them self by giving everything that they do 100% effort every single time.
To wrap up this section, let’s bring everything mentioned in this section together by saying that how to improve performance at work in 30 days or less is very real and doable but it all starts with the right mindset. Becoming a better leader doesn’t happen by accident, it’s a choice that a person must commit to. A person can do this by choosing to Show Up every minute of every day in the workplace. Then they have to be willing to Step Out and be unique by doing many things that most leaders don’t and won’t be willing to do.
Last but certainly not least, a leader should work very hard to Shine in the workplace by utilizing the S.H.I.N.E. formula which will help them be the best leader they can possibly be. There is enough information in this section to help any leader become very successful at what they do but I am just getting warmed up.
