#60DBC Day 4: How To Leverage OPC and Build a Targeted Twitter Following
Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.
In Day 4 of The 60 Day Blog Challenge, I will show you how to leverage OPC (other people’s content) with a 4 step “content curation” strategy that will also build you a targeted Twitter following.
This is a method I learned from Ty Tribble, creator of mlmblog.net, one of the most popular and highly trafficked blogs in the online marketing niche.
It is what I’d call a Content Curation strategy that is great for those days when you don’t have the energy or time to produce your own content.
The process is simple:
1) Find one or two articles or blog posts that provide a lot of value and are related to your niche.
2) Post the link to your curated article(s) on your blog with a brief introduction for each.
3) Identify influencers in your niche and follow their followers on Twitter.
4) Share your curated posts on Twitter.
Now I’ll break down each step in more detail.
1) Find one or two high quality articles or blog posts
Below I’ll list the places I go to find quality content that I can curate on my blog.
PopUrls.com (http://popurls.com)
PopUrls is a website that aggregates popular content from all over the web each day.. On the main page of the site, you will see the most popular blog posts and articles from a wide array of sources, such as Reddit, Digg, Huffington Post, etc.
I review the main page, and if I don’t find anything there, I do a search with a series of niche specific keywords, one after another, until I find a couple posts that I really like.
Google Hot Trends (http://www.google.com/trends/hottrends)
This is a specific page within Google Trends that lists articles and posts that are trending.
I browse through the first few pages of this list every day to see if anything jumps out at me that I think my audience would like.
Twitter Search (http://search.twitter.com)
Go here and enter a search on some related niche keywords and you’ll see what’s being tweeted. This is a great way to find the trending “social chatter ” in your niche..
2) Post a link to the article or multiple articles with a one or two paragraph introduction for each.
In the first paragraph of the introduction, say what you liked best about the article.
In the second paragraph, say what you like most about the author.
Then post your link.
Also be sure to leave a comment on the posts you curate, so that the author is more likely to check out your blog and return the favor.
3) Identify influencers in your niche and follow their followers on Twitter.
You can find these influencers in a variety of ways.
Obviously the publishers who’s content you’re curating will often qualify as influencers in your niche.
You can also find influencers by searching for top niche specific keywords and then visiting the blogs and websites at the top of the search results.
Follow these influencers, then follow their followers.

4) Tweet your blog post link.
This one is self explanatory.
Benefits of this Content Curation Strategy
-Adds an authority factor to your web presence
-Enriches YOUR knowledge of your niche, as it you will be more aware of the trends and developments in your industry.
-Helps your audience solve the information overload issue by providing them quality information on one platform
Hot Tip: Implement a “Weekly” curation strategy:
Beginning at the start of your week, spend 15 – 30 minutes each day finding and reading content that you like, bookmark the best stuff, and then publish a curated weekly list for your audience to check out before the weekend…
