In Day 19 of the 60 Day Blog Challenge, I share 7 Easy Ways To Write Persuasive Blog content.
1. Don’t Hard Teach
Big Mistake
Hard teaching will produce lost of fans, but few customers
And also attracts the freebie-seekers
Not only that, but most people feel bombarded by too much content
You hear that “content is king”, but that’s not entirely true.
More correctly, the “right” content is king
Instead of hard teaching, bait the hook.
Tell your audience “what” to do… but not completely “how” to do it (which is valuable, people love it)
Test teaching versus baiting, and see for yourself.
As an example, let’s say you had a product that taught how to use bullet points effectively.
In your blog, you could talk about why to use bullet points, why bullet points are great, why they need it, but not HOW.
That way, there’s no way to execute without getting your product, opting in, etc.
2. Write like you talk – warts and all
This will make writing easier, and make you seem more real.
People like to do business with real people who are imperfect like they are.
Use your own unique figures of speech, slang.
At the same time, don’t say anything you wouldn’t say in front of your grandma.
3. Tell Stories
Telling stories is the easiest way to write a blog post..
And stories are the chief way in which human beings share, process, and remember information.
Use examples from real life.
Good stories go viral!
4. Inspire
Everone is looking for inspiration!
Inspiring content makes people feel good about themselves and you.
People like to share inspiring stories (viral)
Inspiration often does a better job of selling even when not “salesy” because inspired people take action!
5. Q & A
Implementing Q & A is very easy.. Just probe your audience for questioins, and publish the answers as a Q & A.
There’s a reason columns like Dear Abby gets such big readership.
This type of content is innocent looking – doesn’t look “selly”
After the Q & A content is done, you can transition very smoothly into a call to action…
“If you want more information, subscribe to my site…”
6. Checklists
You can make lists of…
-Things you see your audience doing wrong (ex. 9 dumb email marketing mistakes)
-Things they should be doing
-List of resources (often go viral)
Checklists tells your audience “what” to do and are very useful without hard teaching (still need your product for details)
7. Controversy
Controversy always gets attention
Those who agree will like you more.
Those who don’t will often stick around anyway.
This type of content will also make you stick out (most shy away from controversy)
On top of all that, it’s easy – just pick something controversial and give your opinion.
Of course, after you’ve done your persuading, you always need to make a natural and fluid call to action.
